  1. http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/news/story?id=5922926 Third, fourth, and fifth paragraphs explain it.
  2. Just listened to Dexter's version on Blows Hot and Cool.
  3. Dexter Gordon: Dexter Blows Hot and Cool (Dootone/Boplicity)

  5. Not because he signed a minor league contract with the Yanks, but I'd like to see Prior have a successful comeback. From what I've read, he's worked hard over the past few years to try and get back to the majors.
  6. Jets' strength coach Sal Alosi has now been suspended indefinitely for the sideline tripping incident. Rookie Jeff Cumberland now says that Alosi had inactive players form a wall along the sideline during punt coverages all season long, but he didn't know why. Jets' special teams coach Mike Westhoff says that he knows nothing about that. No comment yet (that I know of) from Rex Ryan on the latest turn of events. Any bets that Alosi will be paid off to be the fall guy in a coverup?
  7. My copy of the Otis Ferguson Reader is the December Press edition - I assume that it's the same as the Da Capo edition. 125 of 305 pages are devoted to his writings on music.
  8. But things should last longer than 25 years.

  11. My friend Bill Morrison sent me this today: http://chnm.gmu.edu/courses/hist409/ferguson.html Otis Ferguson nails John Hammond without using a hammer.
  12. Roscoe looked better in a dashiki (or something close to it) than Sal Nistico did.
  13. I play Santa to myself during the rest of the year. I don't have any need to do that during the Christmas season.
  14. I heard Albert Ayler and Milford Graves (+ the rest of the Ayler Quintet) play live in 1968. Don't think that this will hold up against the memory of that, but it may be interesting to hear.
  15. Log on to your library system's web site and order a few. You can get an idea from that. I find that reading Whitney Balliett can be enjoyable. However, imo he was a better salesman than he was a critic, and I keep that it mind when I read some of the things he wrote.
  16. Also Phineas Newborn, piano, 1931 And Jim Sangrey, 1955
  17. My dad was at that game. He'd talk about it anytime you asked him! Dicky Maegle's (at some point he changed his name from Moegle) reaction to Sunday's incident in today's NY Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/12/14/sports/football/14jets.html?_r=1&scp=2&sq=dicky%20moegle&st=cse
  18. Hope you have a peaceful and happy birthday!

  20. Wrong. It all comes back to this. Most of us are in one place and one(?) of us is in another. Arguments are useless when people are on different planes.
  21. Gene Ammons: Boss Tenor (Prestige/Alto)
  22. Haven't ordered yet, but I'm disappointed that Steven Lasker has written the liner notes. I feel that his notes for the Ellington small group sessions concentrated mainly on the business side of things and ignored the music all too often. I'm still looking forward to hearing the music, but not to reading the the liner notes.
