    Red Rodney

Try Charlie Rouse/Red Rodney: Social Call (Uptown) - very good Rodney on that one.
  2. Still have one of those - useful when I have to reset my equipment. Mine was noisy from the day I got it.
  3. Ed Thigpen on John Lindberg's Bounce w. Dave Douglas & Larry Ochs. Mr. Thigpen sounds just fine.
  4. All star lineup. Wonder if the music lives up to the names - hope Chuck gives an opinion on this one.
  5. Can't give any recs on that bunch, but I wish they'd reissue the Zoller/Raney recordings.
  6. Roscoe Mitchell and the Sound and Space Ensembles (Black Saint) Bobby Bradford: Love's Dream (Emanem)
  7. I like some of Elvis' recordings a lot - just never bought into the whole King thing.
  8. Dollar Brand Herbie Nichols Quartet Out
  9. All the best on your birthday!
  10. Benny Golson's New York Scene (Contemporary - yellow label)
  11. If Bobby Hebb kept his business straight, he must have done well with all the royalties over the years.
  12. Oscar Gamble Artis Gilmore Ben Wallace
  13. I'm confused now. The album I know has Wynton Kelly and, I'm pretty sure, Lee Morgan and is called 'the New York Scene'. Great article, BTW. Kelly's on piano, but Art Farmer - not Lee Morgan - on trumpet. Three quintet sides w. Golson & Farmer.
  14. Dickie Wells Junior Wells Mingus
  15. Karl Berger/Ed Blackwell/Dave Holland: Transit (Black Saint)
  16. Art Farmer plays on that date. That may be the first time they recorded together in a small group, so the quintet sides on that date might be seen as a precursor to the Jazztet.
  17. I have plenty of Cecil on my shelves that I haven't yet gotten to know well, so I don't need a vanity/collector's item. I hope that those who go for the set will be moved by it, and that Mr. Taylor and Mr. Oxley see a good financial return from the project.
  18. Betty Comden Adolph Green Phyllis Newman
  19. The Jazz Messengers at the Cafe Bohemia Volume 1 (BN/King Japan) Some of Kenny Dorham's finest moments, at least to my ears.
  20. An all time favorite
  21. Don't get all that many PMs, but I got e-mails notifying me of the most recent PMs I received.
  22. Bella Abzug Emanuel Cella Most Happy Fella Fela Anikulapo Kuti Cootie Williams Buggsy Siegel Jonathan Livingston Seagull Lawrence Tierney Rupert Sheldrake Marilyn Duckworth Eugene Goossens Robbie Gosling Jack, Kack, Lack, Mack, Nack, Ouack, Pack, Quack Goose Gossage Ryne Duren Mariano Rivera
  23. See post #10 - tho I believe it was 2 cuts w. B.G., not 4.
  24. Last from Lennie's was the second CD issued from that date. Jaki Byard Quartet: Live was the first.
