  1. Ken McIntyre with Eric Dolphy: Looking Ahead Copped the title of Cecil's Contemporary minus the explanation point. Not as good a record as Cecil's but still a pretty good one.
  2. When I heard Cody's version in the 70s, it brought up vague memories of hearing Johnny Bond's version in the early 60s. I assumed that Bond's was the original, but when I did a google it turned out that a guy named Charlie Ryan wrote "Hot Rod Lincoln" and recorded it about five years before Bond. Trivia - I know.

  6. Well said. There's a bigger picture than just folks being late or being on time.
  7. On a day fit for a king, Happy Birthday!
  8. Jimmy "T-99" Nelson (Ace 10" LP)
  9. I'd go to the dentist as soon as possible. Don't take chances with your teeth. You won't get a second chance once they're gone.
  10. Hope that this was issued a while after 1964. Michael Cuscuna was 16 in 1964 - doubt that he'd have had much of interest to write then.
  11. I agree. It's difficult to be a team player when the guys around you aren't holding up their end.
  12. What moment of glory? How about Kentucky's? They won the fucking game. Geograpically close - Tennessee won the game.
  13. My country was built on the foundations of racial separation, and I believe it will be one the factors that will ultimately destroy it. I'd like to believe otherwise, but I don't have a lot of hope about that.
  14. There are a number of Prestige Garlands I like a lot, but my favorite is Red in Bluesville. It was the first one I heard back in the 60's, so perhaps there's a bit of nostalgia involved there (pace, Chuck), but I still enjoy it whenever I listen to it.
  15. Percival Everett's story: "The Fix"
  16. Read a couple of short (but fine) pieces before going to sleep last night: Eudora Welty's "Why I Live at the P.O." and Steve Voce's "Don't Shoot - We're American!" from Reading Jazz
  17. Sounds like you have a fine day set up. Hope you enjoy it.
  18. wow. RIP. When I read that Johnny Hart died at his storyboard, I thought about Warne Marsh. Both men died while doing what they lived for.
  19. I wonder how many hits he can take. With his style of play, he gets beat up more than most stars.
  20. I'm waiting for the Uptown.
  21. A bassist friend of mine uses gut strings much of the time.
  22. When I saw the topic title, I thought it was a thread about the Albany, NY area drummer. Didn't even think about the Grambling football coach. Shows where my head's at these days.
  23. HOFers? With the exceptions of #24 (8) and Odom, the Lakers starting lineup would be on the bench if they played for a lot of other NBA teams. And I say that as a longtime Laker fan.
