  1. In my Firefox I have installed Adblock, which filters out all ads on all sites. I have not found that functionality for TV yet. Did let that box go with my ex six years ago. I kept the record player. If I want to watch something, I'll usually make a visit to someone nearby. Love cooking and art programs. Can't stand ads for more than 30 secs. I would might have been watching more if I could avoid those constant loud annoying ad breaks. I don't envy kids today who have to endure all that nagging everytime they watch a children programme.
  2. Arne Domnerus was one of Sweden's most important jazz artists ever, and a wonderful player through the years. R.I.P. He also did sessions with Charlie Parker in the 50's: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51uU...L500_AA240_.jpg
  3. I see Woody Shaw more as a real jazz artist determined to communicate his musical vision regardless of a sometimes unreceptive music world.

  8. This looks like a very interesting book from a seminal woman in American jazz. And there is Monk on the cover too. From the Product Description: Product Description An unprecedented, behind-the-scenes look at jazz legends In the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, Pannonica de Koenigswarter, known as Nica, was a constant and benevolent presence on the thriving New York jazz scene. Known as the Jazz Baroness (she was born into the wealthy Rothschild family and later married a French aristocrat) she befriended such giants as Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker, Barry Harris, Art Blakey, Miles Davis, Bud Powell, and many more. She inspired over twenty jazz compositions, bailed musicians out of jail, and even acted as a booking agent. She also collected wishes. Over the course of a decade, Koenigswarter asked three hundred musicians what their three wishes in life were, jotting them all down in a notebook. At the same time she took hundreds of candid photographs, saving them all. In Three Wishes, Koenigswarter’s forays into the psyches and lives of these legendary jazz artists are made available in America for the first time. With a foreword by celebrated jazz critic Gary Giddins, and a introduction from Nica’s granddaughter, Nadine de Koenigswarter, providing rare insights into the mysterious baroness’s life, this funny, eclectic, and moving compilation is a uniquely intimate look into the immortals of the classic era of jazz, and a must-have for any fan or afficianado. About the Author Pannonica de Koenigswarter, daughter of Charles and Rozsika Rothschild, was married to the Baron Jules de Koenigswarter, a renowned freedom fighter in the French resistance, before she moved to New York City, where she emerged as a major patron of the Jazz scene. Nadine de Koenigswarter, Nica’s granddaughter, is a multimedia visual artist living in Paris and West Africa. Gary Giddins is an award-winning jazz critic and author. He writes columns about music for Jazz Times and about film for the New York Sun. http://budsartbooks.com/prod.cfm/pc/THRW/cid/23 Gotta check this one!
  9. Anyone knows anything about what's on this new DVD? Pretty cool label name too.
  10. Wouldn't have picked you as the porn type. Gotta say it's it's the worst ever translation of a french movie title. From IMDB: The title of the film comes from the French idiom "faire les quatre cents coups", meaning "to raise hell".
  11. This seems like an interesting book: http://www.jazzscript.co.uk/books/mingussantoro.htm Anyone read this one on the Angry Man of Jazz?

  24. Another goodie: BURLINGTON, Maine – A fire chief in Penobscot County has been charged with being drunk behind the wheel while driving a fire truck with its lights on and its sirens going.Russell Banks of Burlington was arrested around midnight Saturday after a resident complained that Banks was racing a fire tanker by his home even though there was no fire in the area. Banks, 34, is chief of the Triangle Fire Department, a volunteer association that provides service for Burlington, Lowell and Grand Falls Township. When a Penobscot County sheriff’s deputy responded, he located the truck and noticed that Banks smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes. A blood alcohol test showed Banks was at twice the legal limit. Deputy Chief Troy Morton said the resident told police that Banks was blasting his siren in retaliation for a neighborhood dispute. Banks could not be reached for comment.
