  1. A belated Happy Birthday here from Norway too! Keep on jazzin' it up, and thanks for great posts!
  2. I got the Charly CD release of Sun Ra's "Solar Myth Approach Vol.1-2", as well as the vinyl 180 gr. editions of Vol.1 and 2. The vinyls are more dynamic and vibrant in the sound, and I prefer these. I have not heard the Sunspots reissues.
  3. Another winner, from Transparency: Universe Sent Me: Lost Reel 5
  4. Got this the other day, a new favorite! A great packaged reissue as expected from Atavistic.
  5. The "Wow" sessions with Lennie Tristano in 1949, as well as "Motion" are my Konitz favourites. Fantastic playing by all involved. An interesting interview is here: http://www.sawf.org/newedit/edit09182000/musicarts.asp
  6. Do you have recommendations for some of the releases in the Metronome series? http://www.hepjazz.com/metro.html
  7. That "Air Above Mountains" is one of my favourite Cecil recordings:
  8. Mr. Brown was a great R&B artist through the years since the 50's, and was keepin' on till the end. One of his later successes from 2007: R.I.P.
  9. This thread is a treasure!
  10. I haven't heard this, but love Hampton's music, so I should check this out.
  11. I loved the music of Shostakovitch for years. Especially as interpreted by Mstislav Rostropovitch. How's this one?
  12. Too bad it's not Big John Patton... The Charley Patton box is tremendous, some of the greatest blues ever recorded. I'm with you on that one! Suberb box and music.
  13. They should have some good pubs around there too: http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/867/ Could be a nice trip.
  14. Love that Frankie Newton playing with Art Tatum on this one: https://www.spun.com/music/product-detail.jsp?id=870088
  15. I got my Technics SL-1200 MKII for some years now, and I am really happy with that turntable. Great sound, stability and performance. Another guy who enjoys his turntable is here: http://www.arar93.dsl.pipex.com/mds975/Content/vinyl01.html http://www.arar93.dsl.pipex.com/mds975/Content/vinyl04.html On cartridges: http://www.arar93.dsl.pipex.com/mds975/Content/vinyl02.html I've got a Grado Prestige Red which performs well. Over at SteveHoffman (The audioslaves gathering ground) many recommends the Audio Technica ML440. The Ortofon blue also performs very well.
  16. Here is an interview with Philip K. Dick from Vertex in 1974: http://www.philipkdick.com/media_vertex.html
  17. I did just buy several of Philip K. Dick's books some days ago before I saw this thread. And then this showed up, what a timing. Read some of his short stories some time ago, great stuff. Thought I would check up on some of the novels too like: "Ubik" and "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?". His bibliography: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bibliography_of_Philip_K._Dick
  18. A very belated Happy Birthday! And I've ordered the new BB! Eagerly awaiting that in the mail shortly.
  19. That's right, it's his band: http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=25184
  20. She's my kind of lady! Somewhat mysterious, but delivering the goods.
  21. This have not been reissued I believe: Summit Sessions (1959) http://www.alibris.com/musicsearch?qsort=&...pe=M&full=1 Duetting with Thelonious!
  22. Hey, that's a big one! Is this available somewhere?
  23. One of my all-time favourites(and the first Monk album I got) is "Solo Monk". A wonderful album, he plays great on that one. Here is a list of all Monk's compositions: http://www.monkzone.com/compositionshtml.htm Of a total of 72 original compositions, it seems like 17 was first recorded from 1960 and on.
  24. Love this one! Bassekou Kouyate can really play that ngoni. Interesting too that his partner on the record is called Ngoni Ba. A great tribute song to the late Ali Farka Toure here too, and Toumani Diabate joins in with his kora on a track.
  25. Well, he looks a bit loco in this picture, don't you think?
