It is often caused by a bad laser on the CD player, which has most problems with nearly full CD's(70 mins). Try to play the on a quality CD player to check if it is the disc or player. For scratched and dirty CD's I have successfully used a CD Repair machine several times(not this one): CD Repair

Night of the Purple Moon reissue

I think this was a good review. -
I think I will like this set: "Mosaic Select Mosaic Select: Columbia and Victor Piano Boogie Woogie and Blues (3 CDs) 75 tracks from the Columbia and Victor catalogs of classic boogie woogie and blues piano from the rich period of 1935 to 1941. The sessions include piano solos, duets and trios to small group recordings and feature a range of diverse artists including Albert Ammons, Meade Lux Lewis, Pete Johnson, Freddie Slack, Teddy Wilson, Lionel Hampton, Kenny Kersey and Mary Lou Williams. The blues piano sides mostly feature the unique stylings of pianist and vocalist Jimmy Yancey with over a dozen Victor tracks. The rest of the set dovetails nicely with a slew of sides by vocalist Joe Turner who is accompanied by Pete Johnson, two all star bands led by Benny Carter and Joe Sullivan. Rounding out the set are rare sessions by one of Chicago’s great bluesmen, Cripple Clarence Lofton" http://www.mosaicrecords.com/futureprojects.asp Will be great to hear Jimmy Yancey in his prime in fine audio sound.

It's not available on Amazon.uk yet. Might order it directly from Atavistic. If you would put a review of the edition here it would be nice. -
I did receive this a couple of weeks ago, and I think it's a great read and important documentation of the life and music of an underrated jazz innovator. On "Descent": Forum link Gambit Spain has released the complete Confucius concert recently: Live at the Confucius Restaurant 1955 Description: "This Collection Includes the Complete Master Takes of the Lennie Tristano Quartet with Lee Konitz at the Confucius Restaurant’s Sing Song Room in New York. All of These Tracks were Recorded on the Night of June 11, 1955. We have Added a Studio Session that was Originally Issued on LP with the First Batch of Confucius Material, Combining Live and Studio Tracks on the Same Release."

DustyGroove web site reports that the Art Yard vinyl releases of "Media Dreams", "Sleeping Beauty" and others are forthcoming on CD in expanded versions. http://www.dustygroove.com/browse.php?form...n+Ra&alpha= The Lost Reels Vol. 2 and 3 are also coming soon: "Intergalactic Research, Vol.2" and "The Shadows took Shape". Looks like really interesting releases like the first Lost Reel "Creator of the Universe". Here is an excerpt from ReR Megacorp newsletter regarding some of these releases: --> STOP PRESS SUN RA Disco 3000 [£15] (double CD)Art Yard CD001 Reissue of one of the great Ra albums – a small ensemble with John Gilmore, Michael Ray (tpt), Luqman Ali (ds) and June Tyson. Ra himself plays piano and electronic keyboards, including the mysterious Crumar Mainman (undocumented by the company itself, which Ra describes as ‘like a piano, organ, clavichord, cello, violin and brass instruments.’) and allows pre-programmed basslines and electronic percussion, which Ra uses to great effect in this small grouping, here and on Media Dream, and seldom ever elsewhere. This makes these two records especially interesting. The LP version was an ear-opener when it came out (it was amongst the LPs we most frequently had pressed for us at the time by Ra – alongside Media Dream and The Sound Mirror). Most of the material is not from the familiar repertoire, which also makes it especially interesting for those of you who already have a lot of Arkestra recordings. This is different. This CD contains the entire concert from which Disco 3000 was taken, meaning more than an hour of previously unheard material, and the LP selections are here set in their original context (this review printed before it arrived here, I know only the LP; I’ll update as soon as I get the CD). Excellent new sleevenotes by Michael Ray (which I have seen), who describes Ra’s work method. SUN RA INTERGALACTIC RESEARCH The Lost Reel Collection - Volume Two [£11] Transparency 0302 Two live performances from separate tapes made in the classic period for the band. Native Son from Berkeley, 1971, just before the European tour later that year and Intergalactic Research, location unknown, Circa 1972 - a fully developed piece never previously released. 56 minutes. SUN RA The Shadows Took Shape - The Lost Reel Collection – Vol 3 (double CD) [£14] Transparency 0303 Quote: “A concert in the early ‘70s. Original reel tape was labelled Spacemaster Concert. June Tyson recites The Shadows Took Shape, a Sun Ra poem not heard nor seen until now. Runs the gamut from symphonic jazz to full psychedelic freakout”. <---

There's a great collection too: Larry Young's Unity is a must.
