  1. Atavistic will also soon release "Night of The Purple Moon" from 1972 on CD. Information on the release here: http://www.atavistic.com/artist.cfm?action...&itemid=402
  2. Thanks! I like free stuff so this might be the right one.
  3. You can check with a retailer like this: http://www.westenddj.co.uk/category.aspx?categoryID=174
  4. You might need a analogue to digital adapter between the turntable and the amplifier? Also check that the amplifier is connected to power with AD/DC adapter and not just a cable.
  5. "It's All in Your Mind" from this one to me is the essence of great Teagarden! Wonderful lyrics, playing and singing. "Think Well of Me" is also brilliant. Some of the songs from his third and last Verve Album is on this CD I believe: http://www.jackteagarden.com/fffavs3playlist.htm
  6. I love Wayne Shorter's well known classic Blue Note album from 1964: "Speak No Evil", but have not heard a lot of his other work. How about "The All Seeing Eye", is that one to get? http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/B00004X0QN/re...;pf_rd_i=507846
  7. Norwegian added now!
  8. 2 great groovy records from Bo for the summer: http://www.answers.com/topic/bo-diddley-s-beach-party (great live session!) http://www.answers.com/topic/have-guitar-will-travel (some of his most inspired songs here, and a cover to match!) Time for reissues of these!
  9. Here is an interview with Lew and others:
  10. Another new book is coming up too: http://www.amazon.com/Traveling-Spaceways-...3833&sr=8-4
  11. With both ArtYard Records and Atavistic Records planning to issue several of the El Saturn records in high quality it will be good times for all Sun Ra enthusiasts! From the Art Yard web site: "Art Yard is an independent record company that specialize in releasing Sun Ra's El SATURN series of recordings, Sun Ra is arguably one of the most influential and important of all 20th century composers. Art Yard is established for the sole purpose of bringing Sun Ra's lesser-known works to a new generation of listeners. In cooperation with Ihnfinity Is and Enterplanetary Koncepts." http://www.myspace.com/artyard
  12. Here is a blog entry from Hal Rammel on "Strange Strings": http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseacti...-bb9a1196e924ML This is an interesting quote from the article: "It is an honor to participate in the first CD release of this remarkable record and the first of many collaborations between Atavistic and Adam Abraham's El Saturn Records." Seems like a lot more is coming from Atavistic and El Saturn Records!
  13. Seems to be a fine reissue of Strange Strings by Sun Ra. From Atavistic Records: SUN RA & HIS ASTRO-INFINITY ORCHESTRA: STRANGE STRINGS DELUXE REISSUE CD (ALP263CD) NEW!!! A deluxe reissue in a new O-Card pack from the UNHEARD MUSIC SERIES- released in conjunction with EL SATURN Records !!! "...all this considered, Strange Strings, the culmination of all Sun Ra¹s string studies, is without doubt one of Sun Ra¹s master works. Strange Strings, standing squarely alongside Sun Ra¹s other epics of the mid 1960s, Atlantis and Magic City, absolutely shines as his most painterly of expositions in its surface richness and play with deep space and coloration. He has offered no world more strange than this in his entire output as a composer and orchestrator. These explorations are only hinted at in scattered moments on other recordings from this period. The full exercise of his very original and very imaginative powers as musical adventurer and visionary bursts forth in the masterful cosmic clattering of Strange Strings." - Hal Rammel, 2006 http://atavistic.com/artist.cfm?action=2&a...&ItemID=400

  16. He's the orginial rock'n'roll maniac from the 50's. Little Richard learned something about chops and looks from him in his early days. Esquerita remained pretty obscure though in spite of a lot of great records.

    Mundell Lowe

Lowe plays with Charlie Parker on this concert: http://www.amazon.com/Bird-Free-Charlie-Pa...5537&sr=8-2
  18. I believe the 'Live at Slugs' CD will be released by ESP-Disk later this year, have only seen it listed here: http://search2.downtownmusicgallery.com/Se...rch.cgi#results "SUN RA & His ARKESTRA Live At Slug's Saloon [aka Universe In Blue...plus] ESP Disk USA CD Forthcoming 14.00" Seems to be the same session as "Universe in Blue" which was released as a Saturn LP in 1970: http://www.the-temple.net/sunradisco/univblue.html 'Another Shade of Blue' on this record is one of my favourite Sun Ra recordings!
  19. What do you think is his greatest recorded live performance? For me it is the Winterland sets: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Live-Winterland-Ji...7164&sr=8-1 Have enjoyed that one for years. The CD seems to be pretty unavailable now, should really get an reissue. This one might be the answer: http://www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail/2506023
  20. Some new Sun Ra releases are coming up soon, more information on Dusty Groove: http://www.dustygroove.com/browse.php?form...n+Ra&alpha=

    John Gilmore

I just got it too! It became immediately one of my favourite Sun Ra albums. Produced by T.S.Mims, like the also brilliant "My Brother the Wind, Vol.1" from the same period, 1970. http://www.the-temple.net/sunradisco/nightpurple.html http://www.the-temple.net/sunradisco/brother1.html
  24. Do you have any other recommendations for John Lewis' greatest albums? I have been thinking about checking out his best music.
  25. Seems to be really cheap over at www.amazon.de: http://www.amazon.de/s/ref=nb_ss_m/303-465...o.y=0&Go=Go
