The jazz scene in Scottsdale/Phoenix is pretty much non-existent. I'm not much of a Rowland fan. Dude can sing but can get a bit cheezy. For local talent try and catch Danny Long at either Remington's or Avanti. Or look for Margo Reed performing somewhere. There is a Tower at Desert Ridge that has a real nice selection. Other than that, nothing comes to mind. As for interesting sites, the whole town is like a resort. There is plenty of malls, hotels, bars, and some really great restaurants.

Saturday would be the only night I could make it. Since I have the girlfriend AND her 14 year old son, it's a long shot. I will bring it up tonight.

I believe XM did a Jimmy Smith tribute the very next day after he passed, so they most definitely have that ability. I have both XM and Sirius but will probably drop the XM subscription when it expires. Sirius seems to be moving way ahead as far as the quality of programming goes.

The cop may have screwed up - but we have no way of knowing whether or not the accident would have happened if the driver were sober. The mitigating circumstances are obviously why the driver wasn't charged with a more serious crime. He may feel that he has been unfairly branded a cop-killer, but the blood alcohol level trumps any other considerations, in my opinion. That's the way I see it. It's a totally different situation if the guy is not drunk.
