Miles Davis “Bitches Brew” Sony Blu-Spec CD2 disc 1 Been some time since I listened to the remix. Great music in any form–I think I have ten different versions of this release, three on LP, two on SACD, five on cd. I rotate them in listening.

Alice Coltrane “Journey In Satchidananda” Impulse Japan UCGU-9086 SHM-SACD, 2025 gatefold LP facsimile. I haven’t listened to this music in many years. All I have on hand to compare it to is a 20 bit digipak US version, this certainly sounds improved.

A nice morning, and I slept well, which was welcome. Starting off with another Andrew Hill, “Compulsion” on Blue Note, a Japanese SHM-CD version, UCCQ-5118. Very percussive, and some interesting playing by John Gilmore.

When I think of Black Lion I think of Dexter, Webster and Griffin at Cafe Montmartre. The Muzak editions of these sound so darned good!

Andrew Hill “Lift Every Voice” Blue Note Japan cd I’ve grown to really love this one. This cd has the original 1969 session and a previously unreleased session from 1970. 300×300 7.4 KB

I feel proud and happy that I was a part of Victor and Chris Albertson re-connecting after decades . . . they were friends from their youth and had long been out of touch. Victor was a very nice man, a true jazz fan, and a generous spirit. I wish his family all the best.

I learned from Victor Christensen's son that he has passed at the age of 89. RIP Victor, a friend via email and facebook and jazz forums.

A stuffy morning! Looking forward to the final day of in-laws visiting from Austin. Starting off with. . . Barney Wilen “Zodiac” reissue LP

I’m listening to session takes of “American Beauty” via the Grateful Dead “Angel’s Share” release. The fidelity of the sound is really amazing, especially the vocal tracks, which are generally more recessed than this in releases. However. . . the singing is often cringeworthy. . . .

I love Miles' playing pretty much throughout his leader years. . . its evolution is clear but at every stage it's very enjoyable. I think my favorite solo is from "In a Silent Way". . . .
-
So nice to finally have an SACD version of this release crucial to my listening world. John Coltrane “Crescent” Japan Universal SHM-SACD Sound is excellent; my now favorite digital version.

Starting off late this morning with “At Barloyd’s” a nine cd set of piano music recorded in a Parisian apartment. This disc is the one by Franck Amsallem.

“Ellington Jazz Party in Stereo” Columbia CSP stereo LP Well, I picked up a well-priced stereo copy of this album, which I just have in an original pressing in Mono; the stereo LP I have is one of those digitally remastered “CBS Jazz Masterpieces” versions. This one is a 'seventies “Collector’s Series Pressing” releases so not a 'fifties original BUT it sounds really good and is very clean. Sounds better than the Jazz Masterpieces pressing. I LOVE THIS MUSIC!

480×477 73.2 KB “Blows Against the Empire” RCA/Legacy cd I wish Mobile Fidelity would do an SACD of this. . . none of the cd versions I have heard really match the sound and feel of the OG LP I have, which is pretty noisey I’m afraid. Still remember my fascination with this music in the 'Seventies.
