  1. The Storyville parent label has released the Autobiography sessions before, in the '90s on their Jazz Unlimited label. https://www.discogs.com/release/9895558-Louis-Armstrong-The-New-and-Revised-Satchmo-A-Musical-Autobiography-Volume-1
  2. “Music For Loving” Ben Webster with Strings 2CDs Verve, disc 2 Interesting music to chill with . . . Harry Carney is also featured with strings on this disc. This is one of the Verve cds that benefits from phase reversal on my DAC.
  3. Now Bernt Rosengren “Inside Pictures-A Tribute to Lars Gullin Vol 2” 500×446 75.9 KB Composed By– Lars Gullin Bass – Palle Danielsson Drums – Fredrik Norén Piano – Lars Sjösten Tenor Saxophone – Bernt Rosengren Recorded at Sami studio, Stockholm, August 28-30, 2001.
  4. The cold is back. Darn. Starting with some swing. Listening to Count Basie, Lionel Hampton will follow. Classic V-Disc Big Band Jazz Sessions Mosaic Records 10 cd set, disc VI
  5. Ben Allison Tell the Birds I Said Hello: The Music of Herbie Nichols Sonic Camera cd With Steve Cardenas and Ted Nash Beautiful!
  6. Billie Holiday “Lady in Satin” Centennial Edition, Columbia/Legacy 3 cd edition, disc 1 This is a sad album, I don’t play it often because. . . it was Billie’s last release and sad but powerful in its way, deserving of the praise and attention it reieeves. This three cd set has a lot of extras: outtakes, alternate takes, even a performance from Sound of Jazz. Also the presentation of the original release here sounds perhaps the best I’ve heard digitally.
  7. The way the system sounds today made me want to hear this Tatum material again–it is so well mastered that listening to these three masters seems such a joy. Art Tatum “Jewels from the Treasure Box: The 1953 Chicago Blue Note Jazz Club Recordings” Resonance Records 3 cd set, disc 2
  8. Something different. . . .June Christy wrapped up in that wonderful late 'fifties Capitol Records sound. June Christy “The Song is June” Capitol EMI Japan lp facsimile cd.
  9. Got something important accomplished yesterday and slept well and decied to start the day off with an avant garde cd I purchased months ago but haven’t spun yet, “Griot Galaxy”. . . a fun listen.
  10. Gerry Mulligan and his Quartet with Bob Brookmeyer “In Concert, Olympia - October 6th, 1962” Europe 1 cd
  11. Greg Osby “Zero” Blue Note cd I saw someone on another board listening to this and pulled it out and now had stuck it in. This one has grown on me over the years. I dig it much more now. Alto Saxophone, Soprano Saxophone, Sopranino Saxophone, Producer– Greg Osby Bass – Dwayne Burno or Lonnie Plaxico Drums – Rodney Green Piano, Organ, Electric Piano – Jason Moran
  12. Billy Strayhorn “Lush Life” Red Baron cd A cd with varying ensembles and solo piano that I haven’t pulled out in too long. All Music says: Although not initially released until 1992, 25 years after composer Billy Strayhorn's death, this is his definitive CD. Strayhorn is heard singing "Lush Life" while backed by the Duke Ellington Orchestra in 1964 (his voice is not strong but his phrasing is quite sincere), jamming on piano with flügelhornist Clark Terry and Bob Wilbur (on clarinet and soprano) in a quintet, backing singer Ozzie Bailey, and taking a pair of piano solos ("Love Came" and "Baby Clementine"). These are very valuable and intriguing recordings, shedding some new light on a nearly invisible genius.
  13. Joe Henderson “Page One” Blue Note Japan SHM-SACD
  14. Days later, I’m listening to disc 2 Miles Davis “Agharta” Sony SRCS 9720-21 DSD mastered 2 cd set

  16. A quick rain storm has come and now passed by. That’s spring here in NE Ohio. I am re-visting this Osby as I got distracted listening to it last night. I really like it. Greg Osby “The Invisible Hand” Blue Note cd
  17. Greg Osby “The Invisible Hand” Blue Note cd 500×500 39.2 KB A great release. Osby. . .Hill . . . Hall. . .
  18. Okay, this is a little weird, in a dream last night I remember cellos, and my Dad. The cello was one of his favorite instruments, and so I plucked this from the shelf to listen to, Weilen Kuijken and Jordi Savall performing Sieur de Sainte-Colombe. These SACDs sound wonderful. (And yes, they are not cellos!)
  19. I have to wait til next month for my copy, but I'm looking forward to it.
  20. Maybe. I like a lot of them. . . all are pretty much top notch.
  21. Jerry Gonzalez “Ya Yo Me Cure” American Clave/Muzak cd japan A demo quality presentation of percussion, intriguing arrangements and performances.
  22. Another warm morning! Slept well and decided to start the day off with a cd I found yesterday mixed in with my wife’s cds: “Americans in Holland–The Great Thirties, Vol. 1” on Timeless cd. A great collection of obscure live tracks from jazz greats Louis Armstrong and His Hot Harlem Band, The Boswell Sisters, Coleman Hawkins, and Benny Carter. Sound on many of these is not that great at all but. . . how could I resist playing “I’ll be Glad When You’re Ded You Rascal You”?
  23. Poncho Sanchez “Afro-Cuban Fantasy” Concord cd
  24. Duduka Da Fonseca “Samba Jazz Fantasia” Art Music cd Duduka’s first as a leader. With some great guests! John Scofield, Joe Lovano, David Sanchez, Claudio Roditi, Tom Harrell, Helio Alves, Kenny Werner, Romero Lubambo, Nilson Matta, Eddie Gomez, Maucha Adnet et al
