Freddie Hubbard "Keep Your Soul Together" CTI Supreme Blu-Spec CD Japan

To me, on my system, it is. I haven't done a comparison on any other's system. I make no bones about being an audiophile, something that seems to attract a lot of disdain here, and I have spent a LOT of money on my system so that I can hear differences. If in general you don't hear improvements in reissues in your system, you may not here.

I do too. There are many better sounding alternatives though, these two recent releases among them.

“Clifford Brown Max Roach Quintet at Basin Street” Emarcy/Universal Japan 24 bit remastered lp facsimile cd This series of Brown/Roach releases from Japan sound so darned good I’ve never bought newer reissues.

That's a great one. . . I have both LP and cd versions (don't need both but have them).

Justin DiCoccio, Dave Liebman, Manhattan School Of Music Jazz Orchestra “Miles Ahead Live” Jazzheads cd Liebman does a fine job as lead soloist here, and the Orchestra quite faithfully reproduces the charts, with occasional slightly modern touches.

Rob Van Kreeveld “Together Alone” Baileo Music Productions cd This is an interesting cd from a pianist from the Netherlands I discovered backing Yvonne Walter on her Coltrane Ballads cd. A great touch, and intriguing trio arrangements. I thought it interesting that he has a sister release called “Alone Together”. . . I have that one on the way.

Another disc from “Enjoying the Ride,” the 60th Anniversary box set from the Grateful Dead. Boston Music Hall, Boston, MA (9/15/72) disc 2. What had been a mellow show erupted into a wild “Playing in the Band!”

Joyce Moreno and Joao Donato “Aquarius” Far Out cd A neat blend of these two masters’ styles. The excellent drummer, Joyce’s husband, Tutty Moreno, is also on board.

Matthias Lupri Group “Same Time Twice” Summit Record cd I discovered Lupri’s work a few years ago and I enjoy his playing and he puts together some nice groups.

Sonny Clark “My Conception” Blue Note 85th Anniversary UHQCD Japan What a band. . . and that classic Blue Note sound of the period.

Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald “Cheek To Cheek: The Complete Duet Recordings” Verve 4 cd set, disc 1

Warm, stuffy. . .slept okay. Man the system sound great! A new tube is settling in nicely. Starting off with the album that made me realize the mastery of Joel Ross and Immanuel Wilkins. Music that draws me in from the first vibraphone notes. Joel Ross “Kingmaker” Blue Note cd

I love my Glenn Gould and Murray Perahia box sets. And . . . this one was a dream come true.

The engineer doing the mastering, Matthew Lutthans, has done legitimate projects that are praised. . . that's a good sign.

This one again. Fascinating release imo. “I Wish I Knew – Yvonne Walter Sings The Coltrane Ballads” Muzak Japan HQCD An alternate cover. . . .

Henry Red Allen and His Orchestra “1936-1937” More Allen with his singing reminiscent of both Louis Armstrong, but with the vibrato phrasing of Louie Prima. And some hot trumpet!

Here's one that I really never expected to see and am so glad that it was conceived and released:

Horace Silver Quintet “Silver’s Serenade” Blue Note Japan 85th Anniversary UHQCD Almost every time I play a Silver cd I think “This might be my favorite.” Well this might be my favorite (until I spin another).
