A warmer morning. I couldn’t wait to turn the stereo on and listen. I love this time of the day, and the stereo has been sounding oh so good these mornings. Starting off with a disc I love: late Jobim, some of his final recordings. collecting his contributions to the Lumiar Records “Songbook” series of cds. Rich, beautiful recordings. Tom Jobim “Minha Alma Canta – My Soul Sings–the Great Brazilian Songbook”. I have become a huge fan of Jobim’s work, and his final works are full of a depth that always moves me.

Marc Copland with Gary Peacock & Paul Motian “Voices - New York Trio Recordings Vol. 2” Pirouet cd These New York Trio Recordings can rightly be compared to the Keith Jarrett Trio recordings, but have their own special sauce–I really like those I have. And Gary Peacock! He always just commands my attention.

Jerry Garcia Band "Don't Let Go" Grateful Dead Records 2 cd set, disc 1 A great band that worked together a while, this is the May 12, 1976 concert from the Orpheum, San Francisco. Jerry is playing a Travis Bean guitar here. . . .

Romain Pilon “Colorfield” Whirlwind Records cd A guitar led quartet with some cool sax work from Walter Smith III.

Dave Hamblett “Light at Night” Whirlwind cd I forgot how lovely this cd is. Forward thinking but not jagged. Nicely arranged, performed and engineered.

Miles Davis “Kind of Blue” Columbia reissue LP 180 gram Beautiful sounding LP.

Ahmad Jamal “Emerald City Nights: Live At The Penthouse (1966-1968)” Jazz Detective/Elemental 2 cd set, disc 1 These Jamal releases from the Penthouse are all excellent–the playing draws me rigth in. Surprisingly well-recorded also.

Aaron Parks “Little Big III” Blue Note cd Pianist Aaron Parks, guitarist Greg Tuohey, bassist David Ginyard Jr. and drummer Jongkuk Kim. A quartet recording co-led by a guitarist. . . interesting, well-recorded 21st century jazz.

A bit warmer this morning. Slept in. . . a lot of fresh air with like minds yesterday had me worn out enough. Re-listening to this excellent album to start the day. I love the way it is recoded and the playing is very entertaining.

Arturo O’Farrill “Live in Brooklyn” I love this disc! Just a TRIP.

Not sure how to describe this other than it’s James’ music. Funky, rock, jazzy, hip. .. I like it. Jose James “New York 2020” disc 2

Les McCann “Never a Dull Moment– Live from Coast to Coast (1966-1967)” Resonance Records 3 cd set, disc 1 These sets of trio recordings are a very rewarding listen, for me. Nicely recorded and mastered–not pristine studio recordings, but nicely rendered live recordings.
