A cold, clear morning. So quiet. . . the few around us are not going off to work this morning. Decided to play one of the Goodman discs that I pulled out last week to listen to, Benny Goodman “The Complete 1937 Madhattan Room Boraodcasts, Volume 1” on Viper’s Nest cd This was quite a band!

“Dick Cary & his Tuesday Night Friends playing Dick Cary Originals” Arbor Jazz cd I haven’t played this one in a long time and that’s a shame. I’ve always been a fan of whatever Mr. Cary played on either piano or horn, and this one where he has a lot of input is a joy to hear.

You should get them soon, I ordered mine from Resonance and got them Thursday.

I would love to see a Lateef Impulse box set, either studio or live and studio.

I wouldn't know. I don't read much about Yes etc.

No, that is not on this one. This one is from 1957 originally. I'm pretty sure "Enlightenment" debuted on "Sun Sound Pleasure". . . . I like Sun Ra's music best from the 'fifties to the late 'sixties. . . not as much after that.

Sun Ra and his Arkestra “Supersonic Jazz (Expanded Edition)” Cosmic Myth 2 cd set, disc 1 This new mastering sounds wonderful. 240×240 20.1 KB

Decided to break out the 4 disc Steven Wilson revisit of Yes “Tales from Topographic Oceans” and listen to cd 3, the alternate version of the album using studio run-through and live material. Wow. A great experience with the stereo in it’s current form. Love this music!

Full moon, bright and vivid. We went to bed early, I woke up and couldn't go back to sleep, a lot on my mind, and some clogged sinuses. Firing up the system to get some early morning sound. Re-visiting disc six of Bob Dylan "The Bootleg Series Vol. 18: Through The Open Window, 1956-1963" . . . . What a young force, real talent bursting out of him.

Rahsaan Roland Kirk Vibrations in the Village: Live at Village Gate
jazzbo replied to cliffpeterson's topic in New Releases
Ah, I'll only buy Apple laptops, they've moved away from USB charging. A weakness perhaps, but I love them, don't like Wiindows. -

I got both of those (cd version) in yesterday. Hope to listen to them in the next few days. (Unfortunately my laptop charger died and I won't have a new one til sometime Friday, and I'm almost out of juice, so no reports for 72 hours or so). -
Duke Ellington and his Orchestra “The Centennial Edition: Complete RCA Victor Recordings” disc 12 of 24

I have begun reading this timely-published book and find it excellent in many ways: accurate in its factual presentation (I know more than a bit about the subject matter) and entertaining as it educates and explains. s-l1600994×1500 90.5 KB

A little snow last night. Looks like it may be one of THOSE winters. I’ll layer up and put the shovel to use later. Starting a session with Wes Montgomery “The Complete Full House Recordings” Riverside/Craft 2 cd set, disc 2 I’ve always loved these recordings, and this was a welcome re-issue offering alternate material in great sound. 300×263 11.8 KB

Got another two inches plus of snow overnight so will got out and work on the deck and driveway in a bit but first I’m sneaking in a re-listen to Gregory Groover Jr.'s latest one, “Old Knew” on Criss Cross cd Joel Ross is a great addition here–I love hearing him as sideman or leader. Gregory Groover Jr. with vibraphonist Joel Ross, pianist Paul Cornish, bassist Harish Raghavan, and drummer Kendrick Scott

I wasn't even vaguely thinking of Sooners, the OU I had confused was Ohio University. One of my nieces is attending there. Now Gregory Groover Jr.'s latest one, “Old Knew” on Criss Cross cd The title makes me think of my Dad, how I wish I could get his advice . . . he sure is missed. He knew . . . about anything I need knowledge of. Joel Ross is a great addition here.
