  1. Now playing Dave Holland “Dream of the Elders” ECM cd I love Steve Nelson’s vibe playing with Holland.
  2. Spinning this one again as its spin this morning was interrupted by a request for Lucinda’s favorite breakfast to be prepared. This is a fantastic listen with this tight seasoned band: Cannon and Nat along with Yusef Lateef in the front line, with Joe Zawinul, Sam Jones and Louis Hayes. Cannonball Adderley Sextet “Jazz Workshop Revisited” Landmark cd
  3. My current transport and DAC combo has given me great sound and reliable performance, I actually have two and both have outlasted cd playersI have had trouble-free at least while giving me more satisfying sound overall--and the DAC allows me to use other digital components if I wish (I used to use it with my phono preamp which outputs DSD via HDMI into the DAC). There are more and more transports available year by year it seems, with a range of prices. I think it may be a good way to go and a good pick for the future.
  4. The (second) expanded version of The Unteleported Man by Philip K. Dick:
  5. Cannonball Adderley Sextet “Jazz Workshop Revisited” Landmark cd
  6. Randy Becker “In the Idiom” Denon cd An interesting ablum sounding not unlike a 'sixties Blue Note session to my ears. Grest recording by James Farber in October 1986. Joe Henderson here, with David Kikowski, Ron Carter and Al Foster.
  7. A more modern big band, live. Kenny Clarke Francy Boland Big Band “The Complete Live Recordings At Ronnie Scott’s February 28th 1969 - Volcano / Rue Chaptal” Rearward cd
  8. The Complete Woody Herman Decca, Mars And MGM Sessions (1943-1954)” Mosaic Records 7 cd set, disc 2 I’m continuing on a revisit of this interesting set of Herman music. Great sound!
  9. Marveling at how wonderful the system sounds this morning. Started off with side 2 of “Ellington Jazz Party in Stereo” Columbia LP. . . the engineering on this is just superb, and with Mr. Five by Five and Dizzy the music just soars, and all that percussion! And now on to Jimmy Smith “The Sermon” Blue Note Japan 85th Anniversary UHQCD
  10. I really don't want to continue discussing this with you other than to say for years I have been working to eliminate "noise" throughout my system and it has paid dividends in improved sound. That's the simple truth of my experience. I'm done discussing, I don't wish to make any further comments about yours..
  11. Geez Kevin, it seems you have misinterpreted what I meant in what I wrote. I'm not ignoring science, maybe it's semantics that has tripped us up. Once a digital signal is decoded--and there are different designs to do that--there is still the amplification of the signal and how it is output, differing in how the power supply is formatted, what topology solid state or tube or transformer, whether discreet or op-amps are in the signal path and the parts chosen, the quality of the wiring and the connector components, switching and often volume control. . . many other factors. I'm not talking about just a digital to analog chip or board, but the DAC as the stereo component is called. A DAC component is NOT just the decoding of the digital signal. A DAC is a component that is MORE than that. And they can sound extremely different as a result.
  12. “The Complete Woody Herman Decca, Mars And MGM Sessions (1943-1954)” Mosaic Records 7 cd set, disc 1 Over the decades I slowly became a big Woody Herman fan, even as a vocalist, and this disc features a few great Ben Webster solos as a bonus. A very varied and interesting box set.
  13. Starting a warm morning off with Miles Davis “Bag’s Groove” Prestige/Analog Productions SACD. Timeless music!
  14. I'm not even talking about the digital signal. What happens after that is often different, power supplies, wiring, connecting hardware. I could go on, but I'm not going to continue arguing with you about audio matters. I don't agree with a lot of your "insights," you seem to belittle the experiences of those who do hear differences, vive la difference. Hear what you want to or not hear what you want to. I know what I hear and trust it. I gave the recommendation/opinion the OP asked for.
  15. There are people who can't hear differences, and those who can, that is a conclusion I have come to over time. And there is more going on than 1s and 0s in terms of power supplies, etc. I hear all kinds of differences, not necessarily a good thing perhaps, but how it is. Over the years I have been told by you you don't hear differences. Vive la difference.
  16. Kevin, I have had many cd players. . . the sound of my Transport and DAC together is MUCH better. There are so many more factors besides "jitter." Of course the combo is more than many would spend for an entire system, so they should be.
  17. Yes, I am using a PS Audio transport and a PS Audio DAC and they have purchased the right to pass the transport spun raw DSD files from SACD via HDMI to the DAC. Can also play files from a stick (I don't do that).
  18. There’s big change in my household now–we adopted from a neighbor a sweet, mellow dachshund-corgi mix male dog who is getting used to us and our house. He’s sweet and loving and a happy dog. Getting our first listening session in . . . starting off with Bill Evans "Top of the Gate" disc 1
  19. I've gone a transport to DAC route for over a decade but I have two friends who two years ago each bought a new cd player they were very happy with. 20. The second release from OUTOF/INTO, "Motion II" B;ie Note cd Acoustic Bass – Matt Brewer Alto Saxophone – Immanuel Wilkins Drums – Kendrick Scott Piano – Gerald Clayton Vibraphone, Marimba – Joel Ross
  21. Yes, me too. This was not my favorite season.
  22. Wes Montgomery “The Complete Full House Recordings” Riverside/Craft 2 cd set, disc 2
  23. Starting off a warm morning with Pops! Continuing to move backwards in this set so to speak (last three, then middle three and now the first three discs). Disc 2- -More with the awesome Jack Teagarden on trombone with the All-Stars.
  24. This is the first time I have spun this since Rev. Jackson passed. Cannonball Adderley Quintet “Country Preacher” Capitol cd I forget how powerful this disc is. This Quintet had paid its dues and their funkiness here comes right from the expertise in jazz performance they amassed working together. It’s blues, jazz, all music out of one source according to Cannon here. Cannonball’s playing is so gut and flow but always, on soprano or alto, has a beauty of its own, an inevitablity from his skill, that sort of melodic beauty and inevitability of Bird, or the Rabbit on alto. . . . Great stuff. Zawinul really shines here.
  25. Billie Holiday and Mister –Herman Leonard, NYC, 1949
