Well, I did read from RVG that his favorite session was Coltrane's recording of "Lush Life" . . . and it was the music he was referencing, so I bet he did remark on the music at times.

I don't have a strategy. I travel through my collection and listen to what leaps out at me, and I work on the new arrivals stack. I'm retired, I love the sound of my system, I no longer drink or smoke to dull my senses and I get three to four or more hours in a day when there isn't a hell week like the last two have been for the two of us. I know I have a huge holdings and I should be more worried about that. But I don't wonder "do I need" this or that or all of this or that. It's not about need, except the need to explore and learn about the music.

At about 0:10 into this track, there is a rough edit and what sounds like Ella Ftizgerald’s voice. It is very possible that this is another one of the edits Norman Granz had to perform since Fitzgerald still was under a contractual obligation to Decca Records. ________________________________________________________________________ (M) GENE KRUPA TRIO: Benny Carter (as), Oscar Peterson (p), Gene Krupa (d). same concert as (I). I suppose that most of my comments are on posts in the listening thread as I was listening. I really like this set. The mastering is excellent. I'm a big fan of this period of jazz and there are great performances.

c1928….Jack Penewell and his Stella “Twiin-Six” guitar. Jack was a multi-neck instrumentalist - he played a twin 6 string guitar and a twin 6 steel guitar. He also designed the world’s first double neck steel guitar (an acoustic model built by Gibson in 1932). Jack Penewell was one of the stars of Marsh Laboratories’ Autograph label in the mid-1920s. Playing a Stella “Twin-Six” guitar, Penewell was already a hit with Midwestern radio fans when he cut his first known sides for Orlando Marsh in late 1924 or early 1925. He later went on to record a few titles for Paramount that were issued on their low-priced Broadway label .
