  1. Nah. The label just doesn't think this stuff will sell. That's the bottom line.
  2. Playing this one again. It’s so soothing and softly swinging. I like the musical mind of Dick Cary, a lot. “Dick Cary & his Tuesday Night Friends playing Dick Cary Originals” Arbor Jazz cd
  3. Revisiting Out Of/Into “Motion II” Blue Note cd So glad this new “supergroup” have released a second. And it’s very good! Pianist Gerald Clayton, alto saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins, vibraphonist Joel Ross, drummer Kendrick Scott, and bassist Matt Brewer
  4. More snow, and our furnace is acting funky; beyond my ability to solve though I’ve kept it going with frequent visits to the root cellar. Waiting on a service call back. Continuing on with my Yes re-visit with “Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe”
  5. I would think a Christmas delivery unlikely.
  6. I never paid attention to what people might think about this or other albums by Yes. I liked that Yes morphed but retained a certain identity that had an appeal to me. The only exception are the albums without Jon Anderson. Anderson is an essential ingredient for Yes.
  7. Chet Baker “I Remember You” 300×300 4.93 KB A very mellow Chet performance with the added draw of Sal Nistico on tenor. Some great guitar from Lorne Lofsky as well. Bass – Chris Connors Drums – Art Frank Guitar – Lorne Lofsky Producer – Phil Markowitz Tenor Saxophone – Sal Nistico Trumpet, Vocals – Chet Baker Live recording, Buffalo, New York, November 11, 1984
  8. Re-visiting another Yes album I don’t think I have listened to since I moved from Austin a dozen years ago. An unusual one that showcases two different editions of Yes. Sure sounds great on my present system, so different than I remember it sounding when I had the Torii Mk III in the system.
  9. Starting off a snowy morning with a cd that I used to play to death but have neglected for a few years. It’s the amazing 1960 band of Charles Mingus with Bud Powell sitting in for one piece. Hard to top the ensemble and the compositions really allow for the incredible stretched out performances. Charles Mingus “Mingus at Antibes” Atlantic cd Charles Mingus – bass, piano Ted Curson – trumpet Eric Dolphy – alto saxophone, bass clarinet Booker Ervin – tenor saxophone Dannie Richmond – drums Bud Powell – piano “I’ll Remember April” Recorded 13 July 1960, Antibes, France
  10. With Lucinda I'm re-watching Project Runway All Stars (season 2 currently, we'll re-watch them all). I'll have the house to myself for a spell today, hoping to watch the new Fantastic Four movie on Blu-ray.
  11. Albert Ayler “Summertime to Spiritual Unity” ezz-thetics cd
  12. My father is the real reason I love music so much, and also have an interest in audio playback. I spent many many hours as a kid and as an adult hearing what he was hearing, and I'm so grateful.
  13. And now, I was thinking of my Dad and decided to hear something he would spin. My family rarely played any secular Xmas music when we were growing up, as a minister and a classical music lover he just didn’t want to hear that stuff. THIS was his Christmas go to . . . and I decided to listen to disc 1 of my cd copy this morning. Handel, Leonard Bernstein, The New York Philharmonic “Messiah” Sony Classical 2 cd set 400×400 29.5 KB
  14. It’s really cold out there. Should be above freezing tomorrow, which will help me with patches of ice on the deck and driveway. Starting off with Out Of/Into “Motion II” Blue Note cd So glad this new “supergroup” have released a second. And it’s very good! IMG500×301 13.6 KB Pianist Gerald Clayton, alto saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins, vibraphonist Joel Ross, drummer Kendrick Scott, and bassist Matt Brewer
  15. Just arrived from Japan and I had to put it into the transport. . . . “John Coltrane Quartet Plays” Impulse/Universal Japan SHM-SACD
  16. Now on to this classic, in mono form. Herbie Hancock “Maiden Voyage” Blue Note Japan Platinum SHM-CD And then More mono, this time re-listening to disc 4 of this great new Mosaic set. 300×300 17.8 KB Classic Decca Recordings Of Bob Crosby And His Orchestra & The Bob Cats (1936-1942) It’s interesting that this band grew out of the Ben Pollack band, a band I’ve always enjoyed.
  17. I don't think one can hold Mosaic responsible for the "tagging" of the digital files uploaded.
  18. Starting off the day with a favorite that captured me the day it was released so many years ago. ’ Keith Jarrett/Gary Peacock/Jack DeJohnette “Stil Live” 2 cd ECM set, disc 2
  19. Tethered Moon “Chansons d’Edith Piaf” Winter&Winter cd pianist Masabumi Kikuchi, bassist Gary Peacock and drummer Paul Motian
  20. Grateful Dead “Shakedown Street” Arista cd
  21. "The Complete Keys to Ascension" cd 2 of 5 discs (4 cds and a DVD).
  22. Snowing again. Ah well. It is winter in Geauga County Ohio. Enjoying this new 2 cd release from Resonance of Rahsaan Roland Kirk recorded live at the Penthouse in Seattle, Washington on September 8 & 15, 1967, recorded from radio broadcasts with pianist Rahn Burton, bassist Steve Novosel and drummer Jimmy Hopps. “Seek & Listen: Live at the Penthouse” disc 2
  23. A cold, clear morning. So quiet. . . the few around us are not going off to work this morning. Decided to play one of the Goodman discs that I pulled out last week to listen to, Benny Goodman “The Complete 1937 Madhattan Room Boraodcasts, Volume 1” on Viper’s Nest cd This was quite a band!
  24. “Dick Cary & his Tuesday Night Friends playing Dick Cary Originals” Arbor Jazz cd I haven’t played this one in a long time and that’s a shame. I’ve always been a fan of whatever Mr. Cary played on either piano or horn, and this one where he has a lot of input is a joy to hear.
  25. You should get them soon, I ordered mine from Resonance and got them Thursday.
