  1. I've got three cd releases as well: the original US, the TOCJ (like the sound a lot), the new US cd. I've got a UA stereo reissue lp too that I really didn't treat with kid gloves. . . because I was an enthusiastic kid (of 23 or so when I first got it) showing off the lp to friends (who mainly didn't get it).
  2. I'll dig this out and listen to it. It's a milestone lp. Duke with the youngsters scramblin' to keep up. Duke was the master painter of the blues. Long may he rule.
  3. That Decware ZBox helps, doesn't it? Nice little "cd improver."
  4. Thanks! Helen was feeling well enough for the first time in several weeks to go out to dinner so we went out to dinner with two friends and had a wonderful meal and time! Too bad we return to Houston the middle of next week. . . I like my life here in Austin. Now here it is 6:00 ish a.m. and I'm loading discs into the ole iTunes. Ah, the weekend! Thanks all for the best wishes and the continuing support!
  5. Thanks Guy! Yes, tell me about the addiction. . . I spent the three or four months living in iTunes while I was in Houston, loaded it up when I left Austin and it gave me a good collection to have for that time. Now I'm reloading iTunes with a lot of different material and enjoying the experience of picking, choosing, and playing. I really dig adding images etc.
  6. THANKS mes amis! Almost made it through the work day. . . .
  7. Complete Decca Recordings of Louis Armstrong.
  8. At home!
  9. Thanks gents! Made it through lunch. . . (lunch at my desk, my usual) and getting my second wind for a wild Friday afternoon of "other people's emergencies."
  10. I am enjoying the birthday present my wife gave me in advance three weeks ago: a black 60GB iPod! Man, I'm digging it even more than I thought I would.
  11. Thanks Jim! Open up a cd! I think all of mine are open! Nothing new so far this week! SOMETHING'S WRONG.
  12. Yes, might have been studio. . .b u t it does have that early Bear stereo sound. . . .! Great stuff. I think both the sides of the single are on "Birth of the Dead," no?
  13. Blue Ron! That makes it a party! Thanks all! Shawn, get ready for YOUR birthday!
  14. Hah! Free time in Austin! I just don't have it. . . . I'm either in Houston for the caretaking, or when I'm in Austin it's work work work either at the office (many long hours the last two weeks) or sanitizing the place for post-transplant Helen-to-come. Thanks for all the good wishes Jon, "Cliff," Rod!
  15. UBIK has been optioned several times I think. . . whether it remains optioned I don't know. I'm wondering if there is anyone ambitious enough and able to get a budget big enough to do that film justice. In the end, it may be better to just enjoy it as it plays in my own noggin. . . .
  16. Though I have had some CHOCOLATE. . .my boss gave me a box of Lindt truffles!
  17. THANKS all! You are definitely contributing to my general feeling of benevolence today. . . and I haven't even had a nip yet!
  18. According to Blair Jackson's bio of Jerry (which is pretty cool) there were only 150 copies of that single printed! Wow. Rare. I'm listening to the Dead at the Ivar Theater in February 1966, man Pigpen was on that night. The "King Bee/Caution" pair is about as good as it gets. I really like hearing Jerry on that big Guild doing those Chicago licks (in his own special way).
  19. Thanks folks! Lena Horne "jump" out of the cake? Might be better if she sort of shimmied and stepped out! Wish the five o'clock whistle were blowing already!
  20. I saw this a couple of weeks ago. It could have been worse. I didn't envision the book this way but it was a thoughtful and competent adaptation. The bits that were added worked well. It was faithful to the text of the book. . . the tone I guess was appropriate. Downey, Jr. did a bangup job. Somehow I wanted a different Scanner, but the emphasis on humor here made the material accessible to the screen. I wanted a different Archer though. Keanu just barely qualified.
  21. Thanks guys. This place and you folk mean a lot ot me. Wow. What a year. A busy day for me at work as well, but I'm just glad to be at work (go back to Houston Wednesday). Looking forward to dinner at one of my favorite places and a good weekend!
  22. Harold, I don't believe there IS a DVD. There ought to be!
