  1. Miroslav Vitous “Majesty Music” Sony cd
  2. Tony Bennett/Bill Charlap “The Silver Lining: The Songs of Jerome Kern” RPM/Columbia cd Elegance, beauty, crystal clear sound.
  3. Fall is here, but it’s still a bit warm. Fiona and I had a little walk. . . walking a deaf and blilnd dog is a bit of a challenge, but rewarding when she returns and settles into a happy nap and I get to listen to the warmed up stereo. Started off with Miles Davis “Quiet Nights” Sony Blu-Spec CD2 2023 600×600 86.8 KB Followed by Tony Williams “The Story of Neptune” Blue Note cd 600×600 166
  4. He's a comedian (and actor), not really much of a presence for decades. My favorite bit of his is about training for McDonald's cashiers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinbad_(comedian)
  5. Tim Armacost “Rhythm & Transformation”
  6. Starting off a cool morning with some Brazilian influenced music. Pamela Driggs “Itacuruca” Interesting album.
  7. Bill Charlap Trio “Written in the Stars” Blue Note cd
  8. Kenny Burrell “Freedom” Blue Note Japan LP on cdr
  9. I have a few of those. On my system to my ears they sound awful!
  10. Well, this is really a sampler (disc 1 entirely at least) of the "85th Anniversary" series of reissues, mainly in Japan, and in a sense the Tone Poet series. The UHQCD series from Japan. . . has nothing of the first decade of the label. I don't know why. I love that stuff, and each time a decade goes by and they reissue one of them the sound is so much better--right now they could really present this music very well. But yeah, that has never been a focus of the label or many of the fans this century, and the 85th series and this compilation reflect that, accurately, right or wrong (wrong imo).
  11. Oh boy. So much negativity. One reason I don't feel the same about this forum any longer. I'd say that Joel Ross and Immanuel Wilkins among others are excellent artists that will lead the label forward with the standard held high. It's an interesting two cd set in really good sound, showcasing the excellent work that Kevin Gray has been doing for the Japanese reissue cd market, and the US LP series.
  12. “The Night of the Cookers, Vols. 1 and 2” Blue Note RVG Edition, cd 1
  13. Bill Evans “The Paris Concert Edition 1” Blue Note cd
  14. Chet Baker "She was too Good to Me" CTI/Legacy cd
  15. Awesome pic.
  16. “Joe Newman at Count Basie’s” Mercury LP facsimile cd, Japan
  17. Whew! Another cool morning. Flipped the heat on . . . it works! Right now Joe Lovano Quartet “Classic! Live at Newport” Blue Note cd
  18. This has already been out in Japan; I received a copy at the end of August.
  19. Grant Green “Feelin’ the Spirit” I sure have a number of copies of this Green session. . . it is a favorite. This time I’m listening to the 85th Anniversary UHQCD from Blue Note Japan.
  20. Stan Getz “Sweet Rain” Verve Originals cd This time through I’m focusing on the always interesting drumming by Grady Tate. Grady Tate–what a name.
  21. This album has fascinated me a few decades. This High Definition Tape Transfer cdr is the best sounding version I have heard. Powell is just weaving stories to me on this one. And with Michelin and Clarke supporting him he can just go where he pleases. The Monk numbers make me feel as if he is really playing these to a friend. . . far away. Bud Powell “A Portrait of Thelonious” Columbia/HDTT cdr
  22. Andrew Hill “Compulsion” Blue Note/HDTT cdr
  23. Bill Charlap Trio “Somewhere: The Songs of Leonard Bernstein” Blue Note cd Been a long time since I’ve gone through my Charlap cds. They don’t disappoint!
  24. Okay, thanks. I forgot Hank was on this. I really don't remember this the same sort of thing. I'll look for it to revisit.
  25. Nigel Kennedy “Kennedy Meets Gershwin” Was thinking of my Dad, which led to Gershwin. . . . He was a Gershwin nut.
