  1. Chet Baker Trio “Live in Paris” Elemental Music, cd 2 Another great late Chet Baker set . . . I love Chet in these piano/bass/trumpet trios. Great sound for a “discovered document” like this.

  4. What a fascinating human being he was.
  5. Ornette Coleman “New York is Now” Blue Note Japan 85th Anniversary UHQCD Sounds good! Been a while since I spun this session.
  6. Starting out with the third disc from this exciting new set. “Classic Vanguard Small Group Swing Sessions” Mosaic Records 8 cd box set, disc 3 Sir Charles Thompson groups and a Joe Newman session. Wow!
  7. Absolutely. If only he had lived to record more. And more.
  8. Have a great holiday. My wife's parents are gone too. Her father. . . well in 1967 he abandoned his wife and ten children and was never heard from or seen since! That's horrible way to be brought up (Lucinda was 9). . . and so different from my own upbringing. Her Mom passed four years ago. But one of her sisters lives close by and we havae begun celebrating the holidays with her family, their son comes in from NYC and he's a hoot and their daughter and husband and two kids come in from Austin and enjoy the cool weather. Those two kiddos are a trip! So we're going to hve some fun. . . these out of towners will be around for a week starting Tuesday.
  9. Ah I get it now, I mistyped 8 when it should be 7 discs. Sorry. “Classic Black & White Jazz Sessions” Mosaic Records cd III
  10. Classic Black & White Jazz Sessions” Mosaic Records cd II Re-visting this fascinating set. I was born too late. . . I just love this music of my father’s tween and adolescent years and wish I could have been young when this was new. It just speaks to me!
  11. Happy holidays! My own family plans (which have been meager since both of my parents have passed) have sort of fallen through for reasons which I can't go into here, so I'm looking forward to those of Lucinda's family who have invited us (the non-MAGA wing). And hoping the Texans coming up have snow to enjoy. Right now, another Land and Hutcherson confab: Bobby Hutcherson “San Francisco” Blue Note Japan 85th Anniversary SHM-SACD I love how they featured strong bass playing in their releases. 500×500 29.1 KB These new Kevin Gray mastered SHM-SACD sound wonderful.
  12. The snow stopped before dusk yesterday, but it’s cold! Hope the snow stays so that Lucinda’s great niece and nephew can throw it around when they arrive from Austin on Tuesday. Starting off with Harold Land “A New Shade of Blue” Mainstream/Solid Records Japan cd All Land/Hutcherson sessions are great!
  13. I just want to add that I find the sound on the two discs I have listened to (twice each) FANTASTIC.
  14. “Classic Vanguard Small Group Swing Sessions” Mosaic Records 8 cd box set, disc 2 600×600 34.3 KB More Dickenson and then a Ruby Braff session.
  15. Re-listening right now. This is a good one with some of the greatest young ones.
  16. No. From 2011.
  17. Out of/Into “Motion I” Blue Note cd
  18. Zoot Sims “Zoot at Ease” Progressive/Solid Records Japan cd Zoot had a beautiful sound playing soprano. Reminds me of Barney Wilen’s.
  19. Bill Evans Trio “Consecration II” Timeless Records/Solid Records Japan cd
  20. #255 here and agree about the excellent mastering of the wonderful original engineering.
  21. Grant Green “Feelin’ the Spirit” Blue Note Japan 85th Anniversary SHM-SACD Wow. This one really shines in the SHM-SACD version. The detail on Billy Higgin’s drums draws one in. . .the clave and rim shot strokes so delicately presented, the dynamics from gentle to harder strikes so clear. And Hancock’s piano (one of my favorite of his performances ever) is placed just right in the center and so well captured. Just a delight to listen to.
  22. Yes! Buster Williams is given a similar prominence on "A New Shade of Blue" and delivers. NOW--Jeepers creepers! Arrived too late to start listening to last night, now disc I
