  1. Further spreading the word and piquing interest: AAJ thread
  2. I think it's a shame if that's happening, though I'm really enjoying the RVGs I've got from Blue Note and Concord (and the Impulse remasterings). To each their own I guess!
  3. Many more happy ones Kevin! Take a long lunch. . ..
  4. There is some comfort in that.
  5. Yeowh, yes she does. She was on the MTV Movie Awards tonight and premiered a new song that I'm sure was supposed to have "jazz" in it. Well. . . it was closer to an R&B Blues to me, wasn't all bad. She looked goooooood if you ask me. But she started oversinging with note two!
  6. Lonehill! Pfui. I keep reading about people snozzling through the Hamilton set and I just don't get it, I find those sides fascinating and attention provoking! Ah well, I know I'm weird.
  7. I'm one of those that wish the pianist had been enjoying a croque monsieur and a nice cool glass of something in a cafe and missed that call. It's not a dealbreaker for me but I've never dug his contribution. I dig the lp/cd though!
  8. This new version is a "Connoisseur" not an RVG. I would sit tight with your Mosaic version in this case. If it were an RVG, I'd buy it myself.
  9. Hmmm. . . I guess I'd say the Moncur would be the most disappointing release to me. That and the Johnny Richards. I didn't buy the Moncur, as I have all the material within on cd except Hipnosis which I have on cdr from the lp. . . . I just don't like his work that much; I like the cdr best of all the material, so it's tempting to buy it for that, but then. .. that's a lot for one session! The Johnny Richards. . . well. . . I had heard most of the material before, wasn't thrilled, thought I would probably give it a shot. .. still not crazy about the stuff. I have the Hamilton and the Washington set. Love the Hamilton! The Washington is not my favorite Dinah, but man. . . it's great stuff if you love Dinan. (I do.) I've been disappointed with the sound on some of the sets. Foremost I'd say the Rivers, Morgan, Turrentine and Donaldson. But no complaints on the music!
  10. Who you calling Shirley?
  11. Not good for your mental health! Don't find that he affects my mental health at all! But I love the way he writes, just fascinates me.

    Suzanne Vega

Jim, you've distilled that down to fit in a nutshell! Kudos!
  13. Charles Tyler? Cool!
  14. I'd definitely go for the Classics over the Roach myself (and forget about the Richards set). . . . That's just me, though I have the Roach and like it, the Capitol stuff is more "esoteric" and less likely to be able to be found on cd as time goes by than all the Roach albums should you miss one of the two sets.
  15. Those must be boots. I really loved "From Nothingness to Eternity" when it first came out. I had the previous two as well. And I love JM with Miles. . . . I just don't get much out of these lps any longer. (Nor have I followed JM much since, I got the MO albums up to the official end I guess, and the first Shakti ones, the "Electric Guitarist," but not much else has ever made me buy them.)
  16. I bought this set shortly after its release. This is one of my favorite Mosaics. This and the Parker I consider among the most "important."
  17. Well, I haven't watched all of the segments on this. The expanded version itself is very very good. It's very pleasing to see the whole stories as they unfold without interruption, and you can watch only one if you wish. The original theater version with the sound track of the premiere night in Austin is also fun to see and hear.
  18. Heroin sucks. I actually have a drum kit like that (in black) in the garage. . . wonder if it still powers up.
  19. "Darkness at Dawn," a collection of the first "suspense" stories from Cornell Woolrich written between 1934 and 1935. I'm on a Woolrich kick.
  20. "The Ideation of Kenny Drew" via iTunes.
  21. Niiiiiiice. Thanks Rod!
  22. Nice one Rod. . . I've seen a picture half the size without folds.. . like yours much more! Monday below, posing as "Earth Goddess". . . . Where's the pentacles?
