  1. Huh? Well. . .poor choice of words perhaps. What I meant to convey was that iTunes via my iBook G4 sounds great, perhaps BECAUSE it does not reveal all the information (good and bad) on recordings in comparison to say my Decware modified Sony SACD player at home. That player is much more revealing.
  2. A great long "The Girl Next Door" is one of the bonus tracks and I'm glad it is.

    who's jane fielding?

Well, it sounds like imitation to me, loving imitation sure, but. . .well. . .I don't dig it. (And I love Billie!) As I said, I haven't heard the album, but I've never sought it out either, because I always assumed that I'd have the same reaction that you do. I do find it interesting that Billie didn't mind the imitation, which Friedwald wrote was so close to Billie that it fooled Jimmy Rushing! Wild! Didn't fool me.

  6. Rereading some Rex Stout, right now "Too Many Cooks."

Do you really think this is a "winner"?Her slavish copying of Billie Holiday really unnerves me. Nice backup but. . . .
  8. It is a McMaster; I really can't comment on the "sound quality." Usually McMasters bother me endlessly on my main home system. This system makes all cds sound about the same as far as that goes, pretty decent sounding, Bose's "proprietary digital technology" sort of homogenizes all sounds, iTunes isn't as anally revealing as my other sources.
  9. Personally I think it's great. I've enjoyed the album for a long time, but this is even better as it's "expanded." Some nice grooves and some more "complicated" playings too. It really has been hitting the spot for me lately. I've finally got some speakers for my lap top to make life easier for me here in temporary lodgings in Houston (bought the Bose "Companion 2"s and love them) and this cd has already made three complete circuits in my iTunes/iBook this weekend. . . .
  10. Christy/Lee, Christy portion. Listened to that this morning (via iTunes on my iBook), early this morning, and it was so soothing.
  11. Evan, I've seen her releases on the Buck labels and wondered. But. . . there are still so many twenties and thirties bands that I have been exploring that I haven't gone much into contemporary groups doing that sort of thing. . . . As you are into it, that gives them a big prop and makes them more imortant. . . .I'll try to sample something sometime soon. (I've other things to take care of lately).
  12. More like Maigret than that bizaaro world copy, Clouseau!
  13. I'm listening to a solo of his right now on "Alive! at the Village Gate". . . what a master he was!
  14. The search was it's own reward; no prize for me please. I don't know why she may have been banned. My guess is that when the old man passed away she didn't see eye to eye with co-inheritors/"church" controllers. Believe me, being hot is not UBIK--doesn't save you from all ills. And it probably was a favor they did her.
  15. I think Bird liked this saxophone, as Ornette liked his; they seemed to enjoy playing it. I read that Bird's was given to him sort as a promotional deal. I researched Bird and Graftons a few years ago and read among other things that for legal reasons he was not supposed to play it publicly within the US and so he is most often viewed with it in Candada and Sweden. . . .
  16. Offer him the limited edition lp facimile version.
  17. Yeah, I love "204 Blues" on this one; "Pretty Strange" is something else as well.
  18. I think the appropriate term is "painfully obvious."
  19. That's Taylor Hicks, who bested Katharine to be the American Idol. I actually lke Taylor Hicks. He has Ray Charles deep down in him.
  20. She would be shocked to read what we write. . . .
  21. I LIKE IT! Thanks for posting it.
  22. Hmmm. . . for me it's Relaxes. . . and it's got the edge because of Cyrille, who I am not always crazy about. Go figure. And excellent Carter as well. Who I am not always crazy about.
  23. Many many more happy ones!
  24. It could be not very good. . . and still be better than the Yadeon cd!
