  1. Ah, who would be surprised that Lawrence Brown swears? No sensationalist controversy there. He's the son of a preacher man, they all swear! (Takes one. . . to know one). I'd love if it were in the can and came out. . . but I want "A Drum is A Woman" (which WAS in the can) to come out first!
  2. This thread (more exactly its predecessor) caused me to burn a copy of my "original". What a wonderful date. I do wish to disagree with an assessment of the date as being similar to the "Spacemen" date. For me it has a very different feel. The tune selection, Nance, Hodges, Carney and (especially) Mr Lawrence Brown are a different kettle of fish. Beautiful! Okay, to clarify I just meant it was closer to that date than say Such Suite Thunder or Piano in the Background. I like it. . . I haven't heard it in a long time. . . can't rectify that for a while. . . wish it would come out in an expanded edition. (I bet there's more!)
  3. What the. . . ? YOU'RE STILL HAVING BIRTHDAYS!?
  4. I had the seven cd (European Blue Note) box set when it came out. . .and sold it, here on this board if I remember correctly. Just didn't seem I needed to have any of those sessions. I've since heard a few sidemen and one leader cds that I liked better. . .. But I'll not be clamoring for a Mosaic set.
  5. Actually it was July 6, 1971 that he passed away. . .35 years ago. May the memories of Pops never diminish!
  6. Maybe they came to a concious conclusion that this would stir up controversy! Controversy can boost sales! I've other things to get excited about myself.
  7. What I'll never forget about this album is the bubbling joy in Elis' voice in the exchanges in "Agua de Mars". . . unforgettable!
  8. OOOH! Busted by the AOTW POLICIA! Just call this one the "Brazilian Album of the Week!"
  9. Yes, pretty good deal huh. . . great sounding 35 minute Miles concert material. . . for one download. Where's this scaryass Miles Davis estate? How come they're not all over that?
  10. Hey, doesn't bother me. . . I find I quite like the job he did on "Walkin'" so I'll be probably buying all his Miles RVGs in time. . . .
  11. Yes, this was released on cd by CBS France. . . or at least my version is that one. About ten or more years ago. Hard to find these days. . . .I don't have a source, sorry.
  12. Spot, the family dog? My father used to ask us that question at dinner almost three or four times a week when we were kids. We had "history questions" to answer. What a weird upbringing I had. That was the perpetual bonus question. . . we always veiwed it as a trick question and gave smartass answers. He got LOTS of interesting answers to that question!
  13. I think he's still in the team, though lately I've mainly seen JT doing the remastering of the OJC releases. But these are going to be "RVGs". . . ! Happy about that!
  14. YES! That and the Hawkins are likely the ones I'll grab first from this batch.
  15. It's a small group jammin' session not unlike the "Cosmic Scene" that Mosaic put out recently. I've not heard it in a while, and I'm away from my collection for a few months so I can't revisit it right away. It's certainly not essential unless you're a second Columbia period Duke completist, but it is a fun session to have and hear. Who knows, maybe it will come out in the US on cd one of these days? (I wouldn't hold my breath but it could happen in a few years; I live with hope these days.)
  16. An excellent album. I'm not big on discussing albums, but I will say this one is a great introduction to Tom or Elis, and an important musical "event."
  17. SS1's advice is good. You can scream for your cat but if she's ten feet away in a bush she MIGHT give off a little "Peep" that you won't hear, she might not. Get down and physically inspect all the bushes around your place. That's a likely hiding place and one where she's likely to STAY for a while. Hope you find your cat, I know how much a part of the family they are.
  18. Not currently in stock at www.dustygroove.com but likely to be back in stock. . . .
  19. I had forgotten about the info in the box set, which is back home and I'm here in Houston; would be nice to be able to pick the book up and read it this afternoon. I guess Albert told her he was going to jump off the ferry? If she is credible here (and why wouldn't she be?) then this really seems to eliminate foul play. It's all such a shame. Such a tragedy, really.
  20. I mainly download from iTunes material that is out of print or more expensive to find than iTunes, or only available via digital media; most of my purchases have been Verve Vault titles (lots more expensive on the Japanese cds they are sourced from) and Grateful Dead Download Series items (not available in the cd format). I have recently joined eMusic and am using it mainly because I'm away from my home and collection for a few more months and it's easy to download and listen on my iBook in waiting rooms and in our little studio apartment. I'll probably buy the cds of my favorite of the downloads when I return to my normal life!
  21. I know you're not. That's the OTHER BIRD though. The Yellow Bird.
  22. Seems like he was a ranch hand somewhere in CaliforneyeA.
