Got my order in yesterday, complete. Wish I'd ordered a few more.
-
Matthew, it's a steal at this price. I think the sound is good. Comes close to being very good.
-
Just an alternate of the Hombres track. For a few minutes I thought it was also some of the previously unreleased material that appeared on the cd of "I Don't Care Who Knows It" and is now on the Select, but no it's not.l

I'm 52 years, 1 hour and 25 minutes young.....

Wow, I'm almost 51. Suddenly I feel YOUNGER! Thanks! Many more happy ones! -
It was a Japanese RVG and it was a US cd as well. You can buy a copy on half.com last time I looked. EDIT: Just looked and it's not available currently, someone bought the copies I saw a few weeks ago. The US cd had extra material. Show a little respect chewy. . ."stop bein' a litle bitch" is so childish. . .oh wait, I forgot who I was talking to.

What are your most important audio/hi-fi considerations?
jazzbo replied to BeBop's topic in Audio Talk
I went with tonal>dynamics>soundstage. My current speakers are tonal and soundstage champs. . . my room seems to limit the dynamic presentation, but they do better in another room, but that's not my dedicated listening room (I'm a lucky man to have a room for my own pursuits). I think every part of the chain is very important. I've spent about the same amounts on speakers and amps and source. (Mine are all from decware.com for my main system; I have a B&O system that I inherited for second system, not a bad TV/stereo system). I was a musician in a former (single) life. I actually have done some location and "studio" (if you can call a garage apartment a studio!) recording as well. -
Here's how I remember it: The two volumes of both versions collectively have the same material, but they may not be identical volume to volume. . . . The newest are the RVGs and I think these are among the very best sounding RVGs there ever have been.

Yes, that's possibly right about the Concord box. . . I don't have it. I thought differently though, that the Concord reproduced tracks that were on a Japanese Yadeon cd called. But I haven't looked at or listened to my copy of "Miles Tones" on Black Label in a long time. (And it's in Austin, and I'm in Houston, so I can't do a quick check).
-
What I want to know is. . .where are the estates in all this? Is this their way of presenting the boots Zappa style? eMusic also has some surprising Miles offerings.
-
To my knowledge none of the tracks on Miles Tones appear on that second disc of the Columbia "deluxe" reissue mentioned above (that second disc is all one concert, from Pasadena).

Thomas M. Bresnahan - RIP
jazzbo replied to Kevin Bresnahan's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Kevin, you show how much your dad instilled in you, how much of him lives on in you, how much the love you share defines you. I'm sad for the loss your family must feel. Best wishes to all. -
Started reading Carol Brightman's "Sweet Chaos: Grateful Dead's American Adventure." 'Sgood so far.
-
Okay that explains it. When I first got this iBook realplayer really f'd up the works. I purged and holywatered it, thoroughly. Don't want to invite disaster by inviting it back. I'll wait until I return to work (might be soon, for a spell). Thanks as usual Doc.

"Sweet Chaos: The Grateful Dead's American Adventure" by Carol Brightman. So far, me likey.

I think we may see repackagings in smaller sets. . .the Red Garland material. . . the leader dates MAYBE all under one cover. . . perhaps all the big saxophone jam sessions in one. . . as time goes by. This may be a route that Concord intends for the catalog in general, and judging by their successful (imo) first efforts, I say let 'em.

Cool. I can't even figure out how to stream on archive. Good to know. . . maybe they'll make these available one day. Thanks!

New Hoagy Carmichael box-set on Avid
jazzbo replied to ghost of miles's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
No, they're not, I have about half or more of this material on cds from JSP, King Jazz, RCA, etc. -
I know what you mean Flurin, I like all that stuff too. I've come to like almost the entire series.. .. .. only the Grapelli/Peterson ones are not yet in my library. . . I just haven't been moved enough by Grapelli for some reason to grab them, but I will likely one of these days.

I placed an order for one of my overseas friends from our community tonight and it was 5860. My order last Wednesday afternoon was 5559, so a little over 300 orders in about a week. Seems like most of those literally would be from this community. I posted a link to this at an audio forum and that generated some orders. I bet that there are many others ordering besides the fish in this little pond.

Oh. . and pardon my blushing ignorance. . . Lovelight with Janis? Twice?
-
Fascinating! Well, maybe we can convince the Dead to do these tapes justice as a "Digital Download Series" entry. Yeah right. Do you think there's a lack of interest from "da boys" towards Pigpen material? PS: Shouldn't there have been another Digital Download Series entry by now?

Many more many more happy happy ones! -
I've never heard it, never came closer than the cover pic! It's a cool one! I'd definitely read a biography of Mr. McKernan.

The first of my two orders shipped. They canceled one CD -- John Coltrane "Soultrane." I wouldn't have expected that one to be a problem, but it really doesn't matter to me because the Coltrane box IS coming and that material is on there anyway. To those thinking about skipping the Coltrane box - that material is a lot better than you may suspect. Some excellent writing/arranging by the likes of Tadd Dameron and Mal Waldron, a lot of cool jamming with Donald Byrd, Red Garland, and several other noteworthy tenor players, and some beautiful playing later by Coltrane as you hear him mature in his playing and discover and refine his sheets of sound. 31 complete albums contained on those 16 CD's, all worth hearing and owning. I agree entirely. That Coltrane at list price was a bargain in many ways. At this sale price. Whoa! Wow!
