  1. Many more happy returns!
  2. Hey John, I listened yesterday to the 1993 Savoy cd. . . I don't hear any "swooshing." I hear the tremolo effect that Costa applies as he plays, I hear it sometimes interacting with the reverb that RVG applied when he cut the master. . . .It sounds pretty cool overall, especially that sort of "digital delay" sound in his solo on the blues number. . . . I don't hear anything that sounds like recording error, just some recording manipulation (the reverb) and some really well played and recorded vibes. My ribbon tweeters really sparkle on this cd, and I love the bass solo on the blues number!
  3. That Wilkins cd WAS available from Savoy/Denon. My guess is that it will eventually resurface on cd. . . . I love all the work that Klook did with his traps for Savoy! Amazing foundation for the music. Taste and drive!
  4. Chuck, those Clarke-Boland recordings I recommend are all small group and have just Klook on the traps, no Clare. On Rearward there's "Calypso Blues," "All the Cats," and "Griff and Bags." And the MPS Boland Quartet group (Boland, Woode, Sadi, Clarke) is killer ("Out of the Background"). Clarke really swings hard and does amazing work on these.
  5. Like Andrew, Klook is one of my favorites and was an inspiration for my drumming (way back when). His list looks like one I would concoct! I'll add that if you can find them his work on the Rearward small group cds of the Clarke Boland Big Band is phenomenal, as is his work in the Francy Boland Quartet recording on MPS "Out of the Background." Great stuff that I reach for for a Klook fix!
  6. and many more!
  7. Hope it was a great one !
  8. "AT's Delight" was available on cd in the US twice, but is not currently in catalog.
  9. I agree Jeff, I really don't collect the band after the return with any passion! Cary, I'll definitely check that out if they release it!
  10. The one that I miss in the Garcia Bands is Kreutzman; that man is an incredible drummer, and he really knew how to make Jerry swing. I wouldn't miss the drum solos either, and in fact the two drummer band irritates me. . . I'm more happy with just Billy behind the skins. I'm a Weir fan though. . . .He does have his moments where he can't sing worth a damn but when he is ON I dig it a lot, and he's quite a writer and player!
  11. Bet there were some sights to see! I saw the Dead about five times in the seventies, but have never seen any of the Jerry Garcia band shows.
  12. This one is not really in the Pure Jerry series but is recent and quite interesting: I'm not wild about the keyboard player, but Jerry plays some amazing stuff!
  13. If you're really nutty you can order all of these in one package and get a little discount. I'm really nutty. . . . I did this, so soon I'll have an extra copy of the first one!
  14. Well, I really enjoy the first release in the "Pure Jerry" series, releases of live Jerry Garcia Band shows along the lines of "Dick's Picks." (Sort of). It has the dreaded Donna Jean if that is a problem for some. . . not for me. Jerry plays so well and the band is having fun and "groovin'"! There is a second one out: four cd set three cd set I haven't gotten this one yet, I ordered it and the next one and should have them in about 12 days. . . . Not sure what to expect on this one because my knowledge of the 1987 band is slim, but there are two editions really in this volume (a four cd set and a three cd set), and electric and acoustic music is included. Should be good. Anyone already enjoying these and have impressions? Finally, coming December 20 is a third one, with Merl Saunders: How can that be bad?
  15. Dan, those are two good choices, I bet you like those! Me, I was going to ask for a Mosaic set for Xmas, and then Helen asked me "What do you think about getting a lap top, an Apple one, for you sort of for Xmas"? I replied. . . "Not a bad idea. . . "
  16. I'm far away from my copies, but I'm 99% certain they are NOT the same performances, rather different ones with different personnel. . . .
  17. Bought the Jazz in Paris disc "Pardon my English" by the Blue Stars, with three tracks also by Henri Salvador. Yesterday. . . bought TOO MANY Jerry Garcia discs from www.jerrygarcia.com (but at least a few of them are going to be Xmas gifts).
  18. A very very infrequent poster here that I correspond with RAVES about this set. And he KNOWS singers.
  19. I've been listening this morning to several of the latest Connoisseurs. . . . Makes me want RVGs even more!
  20. I still have to get that one but I have all the others! Hope it's a special day!
  21. Welcome Mike! Glad you are posting here!
  22. I'd buy it in a minute too. Damned good guitar on this one too!
  23. Dan, I'm so surprised he didn't tell you! I sometimes have George and Calvin Newborn mixed up in my mind, I find them to have similar styles . . . I dig them both.
  24. Very valid points Stef. I'm trying to correct my wandering eyes!
  25. Yes, I know whay you mean, my system in an early incarnation made over fifty percent of digital sound really bad (analog sounded wonderful). I've tailored with interconnects and cabling and power conditioning and isolation components to have a sound that is more enjoyable for ninety percent of cds I have (and I have about 10,000 so I need to want to listen to them!) It still measures well, and I can't wait to get home to listen every day and live for my weekend long sessions! Perhaps the smartest thing I did was wait until PS Audio Statement interconnects and speaker cables were discounted enough for me to justify buying them; these really helped my system to be more enjoyable!
