  1. Hmmm. . . Angelina Jolie or Liz Hurley or Ziyi Zhang pop into mine. . . I must be a deviant!

  3. As you know, I'm just such a nut as well. Video game. .. yeah I thought of that. . . and I guess that there is a generation to which these are very important as a part of their "reality". . . . And it would be PhilDickian to explore that. . . . Just isn't how I personally view or want to view Scanner!
  4. Both of those women are lovely, but Ziyi catpivates my attention. There's Rush Hour 2, as well, she does a nice supporting role there!
  5. Yeah, those spray cans of Ubik are hard to find when you most need them. Scanner thread

Hey, this Bapatiste "Let Freedom Ring" is good stuff. All over the map as far as Trane and Jo'burg and bit of West Indies and Cannon and Strata East and Jihad and the Mingus spoken attitude, yet cohesively and inventively stirred in. Nice arrangements. Dig the guitarist a LOT. Nice playing, the playing ain't the real big deal of it, the whole sort of collective performance and texture is what I'm digging and I think I'm supposed. I should check this guy out further and probably will. Did the trick today uplifting wise today. I needed some plucking up by the suspenders.

Yeah, I'd really like to have a remastered version of "Anything Goes." Great cover too. I'm very very fond of "Time Further Out" and "Bossa Nova U.S.A." because my mother had these growing up and I used to listen and marvel and bang on furniture to them and I haven't ever outgrown my admiration for all concerned on these.
  8. Okay, I've been enjoying this lovely charismatic actress in "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," "Hero," "House of Flying Daggers," "Musa the Warrior". . . . Any other outstanding performances in film that I should look into?
  9. Welcome, and you're welcome!
  10. I'm solidly with Guy on this one, yeah, either is better alone together, but i'll take them together too. Chick did some totally great stuff when he was the only keys man, and so did Keith, and they're very different totally great stuffs! (In my opinion).

  12. Hell I like them better than some Freddie Hubbard dates or a few other Blue Notes myself. I'll buy them however they come out. (I might prefer them coming from Water actually because . . .well I think lately they're doing better jobs than the Connoisseur series by a sizeable margin.
  13. That Pres S O B was/is like the Ganges.
  14. Thanks for the information Bill. Tried to find those and check myself, but you know me and my archive. . . they didn't jump out at me. I really doubt we'll see them on one but I could be wrong.
  15. Kirby and Sinnott. . . what a combo!!

I haven't explored the lat decade or two of studio material, but I've live material that is PHENOMENAL. As you say Jim, he has a unique approach. . .he's unique.
  19. Me too. . . I think it is a matter of whether you have personal experiences you can relate to in the material and I do. . . . I don't see these as drugged out cries for help rather than a search for direction and hope and I think they're pretty wonderful books. I love Dick the prober of our contemporary world in the earler novels as well, I believe that they are all equally fascinating aspects of this fertile mind and its work. Man, this trailer dampens my enthusiasm but I'll go to see it opening weekend. I like to be alone in the dark!
  20. Thanks for checking in Brownie, don't stay away too long. Hans, the avatar is a still from an upcoming movie from a Philip K. Dick novel, A Scanner Darkly. I'm interested in the movie. . . I haven't seen the avatar as creepy, but it is a sort of creepy novel. . . .
  21. Well, I don't listen to radio, but I appreciate what you do. And you're welcome.
  22. Hans, you know I missed you, thanks for coming back! Brownie. . . come on Brownie. WE NEED YOU!
  23. Sounds like a nice program David. I'm a stone cold Una Mae freakazoid and think I have everything available from her. . . such a wonderful woman and player.
  24. This is the post Bitches Brew material. . . . The two lp/cd "Live/Evil" contains part of these recordings (and some studio material that has appeared in the box sets released). This material has long been a favorite of mine. The nights at the Cellar Door were really good ones band-wise and I'm really looking forward to the set. Jarrett plays here in a way that he didn't otherwise in the official releases and Bartz plays very well, Miles really seems to be enjoying himself and the bass and drums of Henderson and DeJohnette rarely appeared tighter to my ears. The one night that McGlaughlin is on the band stand is a special one, everyone is excited at working him into the pieces.
