  1. I'm for it. I imagine some others may have pm'd him directly? I'm about to do so.

    Bix Beiderbecke

But I'm not sure that story is TRUE! His mother was supportive of his music.
  3. I understand the economics, and would even pay Connoisseur prices. . .to have them remastered by RVG rather than Ron McMaster. . . .
  4. I'll get them all eventually. . . to replace copies I have. . .but I wish they were RVGs!
  5. I like all the Sal I've ever heard a lot. As Larry says he was a special player. I have some material not out on cd as far as I can tell live in an LA club that I really like as well as most anything. Nistico playing "Lester Leaps In" is a blast!
  6. Happy Birthday Bill and Jim!
  7. Bill is okay. I'm not sure he'll return any time soon to internet posting, but I've struggled to get news of him over the last year with some success, he's contacted some of us recently and he's doing well. Happy Birthday Bill!

    Rene Urtreger

YES, I have ordered through Berkshire Records Outlet for years.
  9. Man this page could BE a Steven Wright corner! http://www.weather.net/zarg/ZarPages/stevenWright.html
  10. I'll have to take a look this weekend. . . . I don't believe there are any specific traditional tunes involved, I remember it as all Mary's writing. It's been while since I've had these spinning. . . .
  11. Voices. Oh boy. . . voices.
  12. Wow, that post doesn't make too much sense in context but. . .what about olive oil?

    Water Records

Sounds pretty damned nice in the Water cd reissue too!

    Destination Out

Imagine how cymbals sound when it's YOU bashing them!
  15. To me. . .he was Dollar Brand first and I always think of him that way. . . .
  16. Pretty sure it's my server. . . !
  17. Last I remember seeing it is this thread: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...t=0&hl=contours Which may be the one you folk are referrencing, but that one won't come up for ME!
  18. Maria Rita. . . is Elis's daughter! Don't know why Elis would be up for a grammy. . . she's been gone a few decades. . . wasn't aware of any special reissue etc. of hers this year. Thanks for that name. This guy I hear doesn't sound like Bu, but more like Philly (I've always been more a Philly than Bu guy!)
  19. I have those same sort of dilemnas. . .night after night, day after day. . . the good life! Tea from the fifties and sixties has a tinge of sadness for me when I think of how soon he left us, and in the music itself there's a tinge of sadness. . . makes for good evening fare. I can listen to early jazz almost any time of the day I guess. . . .
  20. Wow, I'm glad you are enjoying the Teagarden set. I like Goldie too, and this set is just a joy! Wish I had it here at work now that I am thinking of it!

    Bix Beiderbecke

The recent Dill Jones two cd set (reissue of an lp, expanded) has some interesting piano performances of the piano pieces and a few other Jones compositions that are in that mode. . . recommended. I like "Private Astronomy" a lot as well. Also highly recommended for the jazz group pieces recreated is Bix Centennial All-Stars "Celebrating Bix."
  22. I need to think about getting the Bartz's. . . I only have one Troup lp and that is a SHAME!
  23. I have become very interested in Elis Regina. . . it hit me listening to her a week or so ago that there are few singers from any land that has that supple and expressive a talent. . . ! Got this one from Dusty this week and it's a very nice collection of non lp tracks. . . in great remastering. . . ."Twenty years of Saudade". . . . Maybe one of the experts here can help me. . . there is one drummer that plays on a few of her lps that I think of as "the Philly Joe Jones of Brazil." He has that same sort of "feel" and touch and swing. . . . Anyone have a guess as to his(her?)name?
  24. David, there's a half a dozen or so titles available on cd from Japan, but otherwise not much of the fifties Jeri Southern on cd!

    Bix Beiderbecke

The Evans book is indeed a great book. I conversed with Evans once on the phone and several times by email before he died, and he was furious with Sudhalter for misrepresenting some items in the earlier bio they did together as authenticated fact when they weren't. . . . He was determined that this book contain only hard data that was verified, authenticated, documented, etc. And it is a rather dry read as a result, but a fascinating collection of information and photos!
