  1. I was very lucky: about four years ago I saw them perform in a University recital hall for about ninety minutes for six dollars! You're in for a solid treat!

Just the title alone of this one clues you in to his sense of humor. . . . Songs I learned at My Mother's Knees and Other Low Joints
  3. Even two dollars cheaper at cduniverse.com The original two volumes of Hoagy released on JSP were fantastic compilations in great sound .. .. .. looks as if all the material is here in this set plus more. . . wonder what the sound is like and doubt the notes will be as great.

Yes, he's very funny and witty, he both sings and seems to have the quippy manner of a Fats Waller. If I'm remembering correctly Marty came to America as a young person from Germany.
  5. Berigan, that IS the wing with the twenties jazz!
  6. I have my own armored car and four operators. . . . Dr. Rat you are so much better looking than we imagined!
  7. Chaos rules in my collection!

Marty Grosz is a master of the guitar! But probably more importantly, he's a great entertainer and singer and repository of good old good 'uns. I'm really just grooving away to his stuff lately. I know that Harold Z is a big fan because he has fanned my ardour. . . . I love his singing, I love the arranging, I love the guitar playing that brings echoes of Lang and Green. . . . A great bandleader with killer regular sidemen as well. . . .
  9. This is as close as you can get to mine with photographic equipment. . . .
  10. If that's what you want to do. . . I'm happy for you!
  11. MANY MORE HAPPY ONES! And no more than three dozen drunken late night posts, okay?
  12. Surely they will be color. . . we'll hope. . .
  13. Do the CBBBs have the racy covers?
  14. I believe they were selling the discography for 20 dollars separate from the third Commodore box set.
  15. Come to think of it I need to get the one by newcomer Sonny Clake!
  16. I voted for the Green. I like it. I like the Morgan a lot too. I almost voted for that one. They're all good actually, all of them. Nice series.
  17. Hey, I ought to dig this out and participate. . . I'll see if I can. .. been working more and enjoying it less and have stacks of stuff to listen to! This is a domestic cd with Japanese remastering if my memory is still cooperating. . . . A great session!
  18. I have this material on video vhs, excellent stuff! Black and Tan Fantasy. .. I love that film. Fredi Washington was one of the most beautiful woman ever!
  19. This just in: Parker still alive, still a contender! I'm not that familiar with his work, but it's interesting! I'm an Ayler NUT.

    Happy Birthday JK!
  22. Many more happy ones! Now that you can drink and vote, don't overdo EITHER!
  23. Ummm. . . to me they no way rival the original. This is an okay tribute disc. . . . That's as far as I'll personally go!
  24. Central Park North is coming out next month. I run hot and cold on this band. Hot on the earliest material, quite cold on the later material. One thing I grab onto on the recordings is the amazing work of Richard Davis and Roland Hanna.
  25. I believe this thread is the figment of someone's imagination.
