  1. "Bone Structure" is a good one. Right now "The Complete Columbia J.J. Johnson Small Group Sessions" Mosaic Records box set, cd 3
  2. Well I'll just say that the Basie and Ellington of this period are not the Basie and Ellington of before and bop is in there.
  3. I'm a big fan of the Clarke Boland Big Band. . . the Jones Lewis Big Band less so. Toshiro Akiyoshi and Lew Tabackin Big Band had some great sides in the 'seventies. The Count Basie Orchestra of this time I used to neglect but I think they created and played some pretty interesting music.
  4. "Classic Capitol Jazz Sessions" was also not strictly chronological.
  5. Jonathan Blake "Homeward Bond" Blue Note Records cd Jonathan Blake drummer, alto saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins, vibraphonist Joel Ross, keyboardist David Virelles, and bassist Dezron Douglas.
  6. Harold Mabern "The Iron Man: Live at Smoke" disc 2
  7. Teddy Wilson "1934-1935" Chronogical Classics cd
  8. One thing I will note is that in this phase of Mosaic's where they outsource shipping I have a) not received a shipping notice or a tracking number and the box set has just shown up, even though others have received both before a set arrives); b) I have received a shipping notice but not an actual shipping email with tracking; c) I have received a shipping notice and a shipping email with tracking; d) this last time I received an email that had a shipping notice and tracking number (but the tracking still shows that USPS is waiting for the package since Thursday). So sometimes I don't think a package is on the way and it just shows up, and sometimes I know shipping is imminent but have no tracking resource. . . every time the set has eventually reached me. So I've given up "holding my breath" waiting!
  9. Immanuel Wilkins "Omega" Blue Note cd
  10. Grant Green "Idle Moments" Blue Note Japan SHM-CD
  11. SFJazz Collective "The Music of Chick Core & Original Compositions" disc 2. Followed by Grant Green "Born to be Blue" Blue Note Japan SHM-CD
  12. Bob Dylan "Shadows in the Night" Columbia LP
  13. Barney Wilen "Zodiac" reissue LP I rarely buy reissue LPs at all, but had to get this one.
  14. This was the first one I heard, in the collection of a friend's father: It was a bit beat but I knew Miles had played with him and this was my first reach that far back into jazz history other than my parents' Ellington, Goodman and Miller LPs. I borrowed it and didn't really get it but it did spark my interest. A bit later I did buy a Charlie Parker Records LP . . .but it actually had Lateef's LP on that label inside, with Parker labels, and man I was confused! Took some time to sort that out. Years later I bought the five LP Savoy box set.
  15. Re-listened to this to see if there was distortion in a place someone else heard it. Then on to "Zoot Sims and the Gershwin Brothers" Pablo K2 remastered lp facsimile cd from Japan with two bonus tracks. They came to swing. And boy did they! Great session.
  16. I also have this as:
  17. "The Complete Pacific Jazz Joe Pass Quartet Sessions" Mosaic Records, disc 3 Just the right sound to start the day, sounding so good.
  18. I really like this one. I hear Jarrett and Burton and Hill but still Ross is his own man. Sound is great too! 800×800 130 KB
  19. Great to hear! I've been looking forward to this one.
