  5. Starting off with the next to the last disc in the fantastic box set, “Classic Vanguard Small Group Swing Sessions” from Mosaic Records. Man. . . this music is so great and the recordings so rich and full sounding. I’ve always loved these Jimmy Rushing sessions. And they have never sounded better. Disc VI! [IMG]377×500 43.1 KB

  9. Lately my old dachshund has let me sleep in a bit later which is welcome. It’s still warm here, which seems odd but welcome. I re-listened to six tracks of the Chet Baker cd “Late Night Jazz”–each track sounds so good, each so succinct and involving. Now onto a disc that arrived yesterday, Renee Rosnes “Crossing Paths” Smoke Sessions cd. . . .A very tightly arranged Brazilian jazz fusion. Like her recent releases excellent sound and playing. Includes several of my favorite singers from Brazil, Edu Lobo, Maucha Adnet and Joyce. I’ll be spinning this one often I think.

  16. Had a nice visit from and dinner with my wife’s niece and her family from my old stomping grounds, Austin. Another warmer morning, still, quiet, with a hungry dachshund and some great swinging music. “Classic Vanguard Small Group Swing Sessions” Mosaic Records 7 cd set, disc V Fantastic music! A session led by Jo Jones, and one led by Jimmy Rushing.
