  4. Another cold morning. One day it will be the warmer part of spring! Starting off with some Brazilian jazz to warm things up and burst a little cloud of melancholy. Mario Adnet “Saudade Maravilhoso” A beautiful recording.
  5. Wayne Escoffery “The Only Son of One” Sunnyside cd
  6. Ready now for something a bit harder-hitting. Per Goldschmidt, Tom Harrell, Niels Lan Doky, Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, Alvin Queen “Frankly: A Tribute To Sinatra” Milestone cd
  7. Thank you. It was odd this morning to wake up and not be woken up. It will take some adjusting for a while.
  8. Thanks. She was a rascal Kevin; we "rescued" her about nine years ago of an unknown age, probably five or six, and at first would do things like steal a steak off Lucinda's plate, disappear under the house and refuse to come out until she felt like it, crawl into pipes and hollow trees --got stuck in one of those-- after moles or mice. . . she finally mellowed with age and became a couch potato welded to my hip or in my arms. It will be a big adjustment but we were prepared for this. Six months or more of blindness and deafness is a big cross for her to bear and adjust to, and a big effort for us (mostly me) to manage. I'm glad she's resting in peace. . . and as a benefit I will be sleeping better as well.
  9. LP 1 of this two LP Smithsonian/Columbia set Duke Ellington “1941”
  10. Thanks we had time to acclimate to her leaving us soon. We're going to be alright. She was MY dog, treated my wife as a second class citizen. It will be nice to be able to snuggle with my wife again.
  11. I just finished making a permanent resting place for my dear Fiona the miniature dachshund near one of her favorite spots in the back yard. She stopped eating and drinking two days ago, and we made an appointment with the vet’s for a probable termination for 11:00 a.m. and true to her self-determined nature she decided to pass away peacefully in her dog bed at 9:30 a.m. She was a BIG part of my life, I’m really going to miss her, but we gave her a full life and she did not seem in pain, just drifted away. She was such a character! I miss her already. I’m playing this disc. . . she always settled down and took a nice snooze whenever I would. And it’s comfort music for me. [IMG]498×500 40.2 KB 192×256 21.2 KB Me too.
  12. I wouldn't know. . . I'm not much of a movie person, and I am also not much of a soundtrack guy. I'll take your word for it!
  13. Chick Corea "Return to Forever" ECM LP Listened to my OG LP and man what a wonderful experience. This is a masterpiece. What Joe, Flora and Airto contribute has always intrigued me. And Chick's Fender Rhodes playing is among the best ever.
  14. Should be another warmer day thank goodness. I’ve been neglecting my collection of Japanese 24 Bit by RVG cds for too long, decided to spin this one. Donald Byrd “Off to the Races” Blue Note Japan 24 Bit by RVG lp facsimile cd

  20. The turntable is spinning with the mono version of a stereo LP I spun last week, “Jack Teagarden” on Verve. Both the stereo and mono sound glorious; the stereo is a lot cleaner copy.
  21. Cold again, and ye olde dachshund is not doing so well. . . I didn’t get enough sleep but I’ll try and make up for that later. Starting off with a new arrival, Ethan Iverson Quartet & Tom Harrell “Common Practice” . . . I’m not the biggest Iverson fan but I do love Tom Harrell and he is playing really well on this live session. 300×300 35 KB
  22. Maybe it was Orrin's partner who has a less than stellar rep I think. After all Grauer, Jr. was in charge of sales and business I think.
  23. Miles Davis “Water Babies” Sony Blu-Spec CD2 This cover always makes me smile–we used to on occasion have a neighborhood Dad who would get out a monkey wrench and free up the water for the kids to play around in my Philly neighborhood as a kid. Followed by Tom Harrell “First Impressions” High Note cd Tom on High Note is always great. Arranged By – Tom Harrell Bass – Ugonna Okegwo Cello – Rubin Kodheli Drums – Johnathan Blake Flute, Bass Flute – Charles Pillow Guitar – Rale Micic Piano – Danny Grissett Soprano Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone – Wayne Escoffery Trumpet, Flugelhorn – Tom Harrell Violin – Meg Okura
