  1. Many many happy happy returns Dan!
  2. I've got the King Jazz cds and the GBH. I think I'll just stick with those.
  3. I've always loved this material from Duke (that I have on several cds) but man. . . the sound on these lps just astounds me. Why did I stay away from vinyl so long?
  4. Yes, Side Two only.
  5. Side One is fascinating. I've loved Side Two since the lp was released, that side just picked me up and hurled me forward then and still does now.
  6. I agree that the Webb set will be great. I have all this material though. . . . I will probably not get this one right away. . .I will probably get it eventually.
  7. I'm excited about both those, and also next year's Miles Davis Bootleg Vol. 2. I'm also interested in the rumored box set of Miles Davis mono lp releases. I'm back into vinyl and would love to hear these.
  8. The Storyville CD release sounds very good, from the same source discs and mastering was also by Jack Towers.
  9. Right there's a European release on American Jazz Classics that combines the two together on one disc. Released early 2012.
  10. Updated. And up.
  11. Hey! I think you should start your own board. This one just won't do.
  12. That was my first thought when I saw the book cover as well.
  13. You might also be hearing a limitation of your phono preamp. I used to have a phono circuit in a receiver that had a similar failing.
  14. That's interesting Tom, and I bet there's a lot of accuracy there. I really don't like facebook, wish I hadn't joined years ago. I don't see this place as a "dead board walking" either. I think in some ways it has lost some impetus because jazz cd reissue programs have. But there are core posters here who are here and many of us would welcome new members. But the conversations go on, they don't seem to be fading. Now if more of us actually "got a life". . . .
  15. Very good set. Now out of print (very quickly went from released to out of print, the estate dropped its deal with Concord). . . not easy to find.
  16. I can understand that. I've actually gotten more out of this over the years in repeated listenings.
  17. I recommend the other Ellington Mosaic in stock, the Small Group. http://www.mosaicrecords.com/prodinfo.asp?number=235-MD-CD Amazing music! Great mastering. How do you feel about the Benedetti Charlie Parker set from Mosaic? I think it's one of the best sets Mosaic ever released, and a fascinating well to draw listening sessions from. http://www.mosaicrecords.com/prodinfo.asp?number=129-MD-CD If you don't have the material elsewhere, the Woody Shaw Columbia box set from www.popmarket.com is an excellent set. http://www.mosaicrecords.com/prodinfo.asp?number=129-MD-CD
  18. One of the first jazz lp records I owned, a gift from a coworker of my father's (a Peace Corps volunteer under my father's direction in Swaziland). I'm amazed at the ruggedness of this mono Atlantic vinyl, and how I've somehow managed to keep it playable and enjoyable to this day.
