Oh, and I must admit that Gwyneth looked really good as a red head. . . . Interesting that they at least managed to bring Happy the chauffeur / bodyguard into one scene. . . .
-
Well how we understand you, and how we like to think of you, can be two different things. I like to think of Kevin Bresnahan as an international diplomat, though. . . I know he's not.
-
The not fair part of that is. . . you presenting us with the image of Chuck Nessa tearing up! You know we prefer to think of you as more "Chuck Norris"- like!

Can't wait to see what they might do with Thor! Okay. . .I saw Iron Man today. It's a great film. I still think the Spidey series trumps it though in terms of making what felt like a sixties Marvel movie to ME. I was most excited by the Ditko run of Spidey and Dr. Strange, and the Kirby run of Thor and FF, those were the comics that really flipped me out when I was a lad. The Ramis movies captured the feel of the Spidey books to me and I have to admit I like the FF movies too for the same reason, only slightly less successful. (I really could have stood a different actor as Ben Grimm, sorry, and as Victor Von Doom). This Iron Man movie is GREAT but it didn't feel like any Iron Man I've known so it was odd in that way. Now I'm sure it probably is representative of some seventies, eighties, nineties or oughts Iron Man that I have absolutely no familiarity with, and so I don't have that nostalgic connection to the past to make and that removed a level of involvement for me. But it was a great superhero movie, really a blast.

Thanks! I haven't heard any Nick Lowe in a long time! (Doesn't have to be jazz!)

I think you're right it will be the two Davids, which would be a shame, I think Syesha deserves to at least be in the final two. . . And I really dislike that Archuleta dude. Maybe she'll get lucky. . .wouldn't hurt if she wore one more short skirt, would it? She looked beautiful Tuesday night! (Not a picture from Tuesday night)

For me, this week, it's "Eclipse" by Mingus as performed by Dolphy on "Out There." I've always loved this composition and I remembered listening to this version years ago that I had this idea to start a label called Eclipse and require each of my artists to record that tune on every other release or some such methodology, just to get to hear different interpretations of that. This version with the clarinet and the cello. . . just beautiful and stimulating. When Eclipse Records became a success, I was going to start Equinox Records and feature the same methodology using the Coltrane composition. Hey a fella can dream can't he? Anyway, this Dolphy performance made an impact on me this week. Anyone else want to share a track that socked them?

Better. Much better? Well maybe, I haven't heard that original cd for a long time. The box set sound is plenty good for Atlantic recordings of that vintage, straight honest transfer to digital. It's how I have all that material now and I never feel I need to find something better (and this has never been audiophile quality stuff anyway, but the music, man the music is something else).
-
Totally agree and am likewise mystified at the absence of this one. I have an "okay" lp copy. . .that could definitely stand to be replaced by a cd for listening.
-
Savoy did manage to issue about 70% of it on cd. I wouldn't hesitate on sound quality reasons, I'm sure these cds are going to sound more than fine.
-
Since Xmas I've a 32" Sony Bravia that Shawn helped me pick out. I'm in love with this tv.
-
I agree, it's very disappointing if this is not relased on redbook discs!
-
You're absolutely right. For some reason I always reached for that third (and final) lp side of the second one.
-
Yes, Fresh Sounds is hitting the Savoy material HARD lately! All this music is fantastic. (Note that Lateef had only one side of the Stablemates lp, the other was an A. K. Salim session, now on his Fresh Sound two cd set). You're right, why didn't Savoy/Atlantic finish what they started. (Oh never mind. . . Keepnews. . . the market for jazz reissues. . .Bush/Cheney. . . )

I want one. Should we plan a bank heist?

At first I thought the Reptet had gotten signed by SONY!

I like it. I like the two guitars one as well. Those would be the Mathis I DO like. . . . Not that crazy about his voice but he could sing.

Why did the chicken cross the road

Chrissie Hynde: The chicken crossed the road with the full support of PETA. Some son of a bitch might eat him. He couldn't stay in the middle of the road. Nor could he stay trapped in a world that he never made like Mr. Stress and Howard the Duck. He had to fuck off! Besides, Mr. Stress offered to let him crash in his back yard. http://www.clevelandseniors.com/people/mrstress.htm -

The chicken crossed the road to buy a fancy power cord. It's not safe to do so on this side of the road. -

T. S. Elliot: June is the moulting month When the hen with cantering grace Strode across the boulevard Seeking the somnolent ease Of the Lady and the Leopard. I don't like eggs. Don't tell my wife. -
Blame Phil S for Miles Ahead not Wilder. (I actually like the results, I was never that attached to the lp version).
-
Well, my experience differs. For "Round About Midnight" get the two cd deluxe version that includes the Pasadena show. Win win there. I find the SACDs of the Miles titles to sound very good (I don't have them all but I do have some) if you have an appropriate player.
