  1. THAT'S ONE HELLUVA DEAL ON HELLUVA SETS!
  2. Did anyone say "get this disc purely for Mezz's playing?" I like it. I'll have to spin it again soon. Sure it's not as essential as the King Jazz sides (which are not essential for Mezz but sure are for some killin' Bechet and Ladnier!). But it's interesting.
  3. Well, now I've seen, heard and READ everything!
  4. I spun that this morning too before going to work. The second box of "albums" on Impulse is out today.

    Hi

    Welcome! Stay!
  6. This is an excellent series of releases: http://www.yazoorecords.com/comps.htm
  7. Congrats! I know you'll tell us all about it!
  8. If you like Mezz you might like the Mezz. I do.
  9. That Savoy date is very nice. . . .It's too bad there aren't many more Urso sessions available, now there won't be. An interesting player. Rest in Peace Mr. Urso.
  10. I downloaded the very neat Budd Johnson "JPJ Quartet," and the "King Oliver Heritage Band" which is a lot of fun!
  11. NO kidding, good for Mosaic! David, I think that the sound is related to the Addey remastering of the skillful transfers from diverse skilled hands. Addey's work tends to be "on the mellow side" and I'm happy for that.
  12. I've listened to the whole set twice, though I haven't paid special attention to any of the "unreleased" alternates. . . . Nothing jumped out and said "Time is standing still this is earth-shatteringly different"! (But the Diagonal Noise Reduction could be to blame).
  13. Yes, it does, in one song. Not going to cry over it but hopefully they'll replace. Hadn't thought about it, but that may be why they aren't shipping.
  14. Notes seem excellent. . . I haven't sat down and read them yet, but the booklet is full of pictures, a high percentage of which I've never seen before! It's a 24 page booklet, which is pretty hefty for a four cd set. The music sounds wonderful. The remastering is great and it's nice to have sessions I have spread over probably near a dozen cds "homogenized" in sound and great sound at that.
  15. Yes, preordered when it hit their website, and it was shipped April 1. My guess is that the email was either outdated/inaccurate, or they mailed out the initial sets received and are waiting for more (though that seems unlikely. . .seems unlikely they would print so few or presell so many).
  16. It's a Music Man http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Mus...WELAID=26043049
  17. Well, the amount of people who really care about these things is so few . . .statistically speaking in the market place. Thank goodness for Cuscuna, the Uptown folks and a few others who care and do it right. . .the few. . . the proud.
  18. I think I've heard every commercial release by Lateef up to the nineties and some beyond that and I have to say both sessions have Lateef and that I don't hear any "polish" differences between them at all.
  19. I know that the Cole estate for instance stipulated in the nineties how long a Cole cd could be etc. I didn't think that exited in a vacuum, and i THINK I remember talk of other such instances.
  20. Enjoy many many more happy ones!
  21. I've just relistened to the very same Savoy 20 bit lp facimile that you have Bertrand. (Well, I skipped all the Fuller solos, doesn't do much for me lately). I have not even the very smallest doubt that Lateef is on all tracks. Whoever claimed he and Lee did not record together at the very least missed this date. I also believe that Lee is where the enclosed discography with the cd says he is. (Tracks 1-4, 6 and 7). Love Judyful, my favorite track on all the Savoy Fuller dates. Love how Van Gelder goosed the microphone preamp for Lateef's solo and makes it pop out so aggressively. Sure sounds like Lee here to me, not like Harden. Here's my opinion: Lee and Yusef on: Accident (both takes), Darryl's Minor (both takes), Be Back Ta-Reckla, and Judyful. Harden and Lateef on both takes of New Date.
  22. Many many more happy happy ones Allen!
  23. Received the set last night. Pretty nice little cigar box, all paper (three three cd digipaks) and the bonus disk was sealed inside the set in a paper sleeve, so don't freak if you don't see it separately in the shipping box. Booklet is okay. Sound is awesome.
  24. Yes, a black one, early one with the cord plug on the edge and not the face and with nylon string saddles not brass. The earlier, prettier pickup covers and pickups too. I really like the guitar. Mine looks like this, but black "paint" and knobs (though I'm missing a knob!)
