  1. Amazon has most of the Dick's Picks series on mp3 @ $14.99 each. I think that's a price drop, tho there's no indication of such. Some, like the 4-cd sets, seem like great deals.
  2. As an introduction to jazz, this seems like a great deal: $46.88 (for 25 discs) from an Amazon reseller: Perfect Jazz Collection
  3. November 13: Hampton Hawes, piano, 1928 Idris Muhammad, drums, 1939
  4. Seconded! Are those the same as the ones on Laff?
  5. Sun Ra: Live At The Horseshoe Tavern Toronto 1978. Available from an Amazon Reseller for $37.32. For 10 discs, I think this qualifies as a bargain: Amazon (Oh, and the Horo bootleg "New Steps" is available for $9.37.)
  6. November 12: Buck Clayton, trumpet, composer, arranger, 1911 Sam Jones, bass, 1924
  7. Thanks for posting this article; I really enjoyed it. Loved that anecdote about The Preacher.

Did you see this video for the mono recordings? (where it says "Check Out Related Media"): Amazon
  15. I don't listen much to pop/rock anymore, but I do have a soft spot for Todd. I find it amazing that the first 3 sides of Something/Anything were entirely played by him. He wrote some great power pop songs - most of Something/Anything qualifies as classic. "The Ballad of Todd" also has great tracks, such as Be Nice To Me and Bleeding. I was at the show depicted on the back cover of "Todd" (Schaefer Music Festival in Central Park 1974). The concept of Faithful is truly loony - I don't know why he did it, either, except to say he could. That 3-sided set called "Utopia" had some nice stuff on it, too. Oh yeah...this is a pretty cheap way to get 5 good albums of his... $20.45 from an Amazon reseller: Amazon
  16. Also on November 3: Billy Mitchell, tenor sax, 1926 November 4: Ralph Sutton, piano, 1922 Willem Breuker, sax, bandleader, 1944
  17. This is a great price for the DVD box: $39.99 Amazon
  18. November 2: Bunny Berigan, trumpet, 1908 Phil Woods, alto sax, 1931
  19. Oh man, this is gonna hurt...but thanks! I've been looking at a lot of these boxes for awhile; will probably spring for Gennett Jazz, Breaking Out of New Orleans, Paramount Jazz, and Cantors Klezmorim & Crooners. There are more boxes on sale than on the originally posted link; you just gotta poke around... I have a few of these boxes already, and can recommend the Louis Armstrong, the first Django, Mississippi Blues, the first Coleman Hawkins, and Paramount (Blues) Masters.

New release: Ben Sidran Quintet. Looks interesting: "Dylan Different Live in Paris at the New Morning." eMusic
  21. November 1: Lou Donaldson, alto sax, 1926 Roger Kellaway, piano, 1939
  22. Nor I. That was the first eye-opening moment when I went to the Apple store with questions, before I bought my first iMac. I asked "Which anti-virus program should I use?" The Apple guy looked at me quizzically and said "Why would you use one? I don't use one, and I don't know anyone who does."
  23. October 31: Illinois Jacquet, tenor sax, 1922
  24. So...did everyone here already know the Reprise Mosaic is available for download at Amazon? It was (pleasantly) shocking news to me: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0016O6WBU/ It's also available from eMusic for 60 credits: eMusic

What prompted this was I thought I saw somewhere (can't find it now) that the Roscoe Mitchell "Far Side" date was recorded a few years ago. Certain Keith Jarrett dates are issued long after being recorded (Tokyo 1996, for example). So what else is in the vaults waiting to be released?
