Release date November 3: In 2021 Criss Cross owner Jerry Teekens called to ascertain Lund's interest in making another album. For Lund, 45 when the Most Peculiar session transpired in June 2022, the offer was an opportunity to reunite with a band he launched in 2014. Pianist Sullivan Fortner (35) and drummer Tyshawn Sorey (41), both among the most gifted practitioners ever to improvise on their respective instruments, contributed their unique mojo to Lund's 2019 Criss-Cross release, Terrible Animals. Virtuoso bassist Matt Brewer (39), played on Lund's first leader date in 2006, had Lund play guitar on his own Criss Cross debut (Mythology-Criss 1373), and recently played on a Lund trio covers recital. The Album was recorded June 17, 2022 at the Samurai Hotel Recording Studio in Astoria, New York. Recording engineer Mike Marciano also did the editing, mixing and mastering at Systems Two Studio in New York.

Richard Castellano was great in Lovers And Other Strangers. I think he and Young were about a decade apart.

Art was also aware of it from a business standpoint. From the liner notes to Unreleased Art Pepper Vol. VII: Sankei Hall - Osaka, Japan: One thing more about Art and his bands. This was an all-black band. When Art replaced Milcho with George, he told Milcho part of why he did it: Europeans and Japanese thought of jazz as the unique expression of the black American experience, only authentic when played by black American performers. Milcho was doubly handicapped, being both white and Bulgarian. Art told Milcho he'd been told he'd get a warmer welcome with an all-black band. Well, I don't know about now, but at that time, it was true. Not only did the foreigners believe it. Art believed it, too. The very prejudices he railed against in Straight Life, Art had absorbed, himself.

Kurt Masur - The Complete Warner Classics Edition, disc 10. -
I remember him in Rodney Dangerfield's "Back To School." He played Rodney's right-hand man in a severely underwritten part that basically called on him to show up in scenes and nod. I see that he was also in a very good Peter Falk movie, "All The Marbles."

Enjoy. Let us know if he has any wild raps in-between tunes.

Philly Joe Jones/Elmo Hope Birdland recording (Accardi Collection)
mjzee replied to romualdo's topic in Discography
Listening now to the PJJ. Sound quality is listenable: a little rough, but all instruments can be heard (bass is especially listenable, and PJJ is very clear and lively). The first set (with Reece, Red, Gilmore, Hope and Ridley) is musically fantastic. -

Listening now to this. Sound quality is very good, very natural, lifelike and professional-sounding. Miles's playing is excellent, and he's blending well with his pickup group. Very enjoyable.
