  1. Interesting; I wasn't aware that Horowitz recorded for EMI. These recordings aren't in the Sony box (for obvious reasons). How's the sound quality?
  2. I was fortunate to download most of the box from eMusic back in the day.

    System video

    Nice.
  4. Reinhard Goebel Complete Archiv box, disc 5.
  5. Kurt Masur - The Complete Warner Classics Edition, disc 21.
  6. A shorter BFT brings a better chance of my listening and participating, so I vote for two.
  7. I skimmed the BFT, not enough to identify much of anything. But #1 is the great Twine Time by Alvin Cash. The band is billed as Alvin Cash & The Crawlers on anthologies such as Beg Scream & Shout! The Big Ol' Box of '60's Soul (Rhino), but I remember this being played on WMCA-AM in NYC and they called them Alvin Cash & The Registers. This was an amazing era of dance semi-instrumentals, such as Soul Finger (The Bar-Kays), and soul hits such as I Wanna Testify (The Parliaments, who would morph in the next decade into Parliament-Funkadelic). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alvin_Cash
  8. The Decca Sound - The Piano Edition, disc 31. Also includes K413 from this:
  9. Per Wikipedia, In Concert - Carnegie Hall and Good King Bad contain vocals. Heck, his Columbia albums had vocals!
  10. I don't mind Benson. His career blossomed when he joined Warner Bros. Tommy LiPuma hit on a winning formula that coincided with, and helped fuel, the smooth jazz/quiet storm era. It's hard to remember just how huge Benson was from the mid-70's to early-80's - his sales rivaled rock artists. Breezin' was huge, and Weekend In L.A. (a double-album and priced accordingly) was massive. His music was light, innocuous, and truly easy listening. I've bought the two Original Album Series collections, and enjoy them when they come up in rotation. As for his King Pleasure homage, those in the New York area understand that it's really a tribute to Frankie Crocker, a New York DJ who used the King Pleasure track as his sign-off.
  11. What's the deadline to send the selection to Dan? I assume an mp3 file attached to an email is OK.
  12. Disc four. Compositions by Ernest Bloch, Lazare Saminsky, Leo Zeitlin, Joachim Stutschewsky, Sinowi Feldman, Joseph Achron, and Solomon Rosowsky; performed by David Geringas (cello) and Jascha Nemtsov (piano).
  13. I already have my selection; it clocks in at 2:44!
  14. I had asked about Larry in the Sal Mosca thread on November 14. Hope he recuperates quickly.
  15. Reinhard Goebel Complete Archiv box, disc 4.
  16. Received the same email. Credit card has not yet been charged.
  17. One track? I can do that. I'm in.
  18. Great article; thanks for posting.
  19. Kurt Masur - The Complete Warner Classics Edition, disc 20.
  20. Apparently, Mr. Williams played on one of the most iconic songs of the holiday season: The Waitresses "Christmas Wrapping." A huge thank you and RIP.
