The Universal download site mentionned above is a european (german) store. Emusic is a US store. The rightholders could put restrictions on the stores to sell to customers in their region only, thereby forcing european buyers to go to the more expensive one. I think this is already the case with some Emusic downloads, which are restricted to the US. With iTunes, people are forced to go to their "national" store. This is not Apple's fault, but due to the national/regional nature of copyrights.

These are 320kbs MP3 files, so the quality should be almost CD-like. But at that filesize, they could have gone all the way and offer lossless files. The price is invariably 12€ for a complete album, which is acceptable for a full price album (18€ on CD), but too high for a mid price album, which usually retail for less than 10€ on CD.

I just found this page on the Cannonball Adderley website: http://www.cannonball-adderley.com/movies.htm If it is complete, it should narrow down the possibilities. There are 4 sessions from 1963, 3 recorded in Europe (more likely to be included on the DVD, given the history of the series). 1) C.Adderley Sextet / Gothenburg - Sweden 3/20 1963 Personnel: Nat & Julian Adderley ,Joe Zawinul ,Yusef Lateef ,Sam Jones , Louis Hayes Tunes : Dizzy's Business , Primitivo , Falling in Love with love ,Angel Eyes and Jive Samba ( 30 'min) 2) Live in Baden-Baden- Germany 3/21/1963 Personnel: Nat & Julian Adderley ,Joe Zawinul ,Yusef Lateef ,Sam Jones , Louis Hayes Tunes : Jessica's Birthday , Brother John and Jive Samba( 30 mm) 3) C.Adderley Sextet / Lugano - Switzerland 03/24/1963 Personnel: Nat & Julian Adderley ,Joe Zawinul ,Yusef Lateef ,Sam Jones , Louis Hayes Tunes : Jessica's Birthday and Angel Eyes ( 30'min) 4) Cannonball Adderley in TOKYO '63 Toshiba/EMI #L080-1099 Japanese LaserDisc, NTSC, CLV Recorded live at Studio G by TBS TV on July 7, 1963 The program ; Jessica's Birthday , Brother John , I Can't Get Started , Work Song , Scotch & Water , Tengo Tango , Trouble in Mind , Jive Samba. The title "Live In '63" could cover 2 or more shows. What about the Lugano 1963 concert? Could it have been recorded by Swiss TV as well? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lugano-1963-Cannon...y/dp/B000024IY6

Maybe it's this german TV appearance: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xy2mh_can...n-tv-1963_music The recording on that site is from my VHS collection, but I did not upload it there. It's 24 minutes long. The complete TV show could have been longer. I would be happy to have it complete and in the usual Jazz Icons quality.

D.B. Cooper's Parachute Possibly Found
Claude replied to JSngry's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Maybe D.B. Cooper didn't know that, the parachute didn't work, and he was still accelerating on impact. I sure would have been scouring the surroundings for a suitcase full of cash before reporting that parachute! According to the Wikipedia article, it wasn't his parachute that he used, but a parachute that he requested together with the ransom. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D._B._Cooper Why would they risk the operation by giving him a 25 year old parachute? -
These cover-less turntables are indeed a pain in the ass when it comes to dust. I bought I custom-made plexiglass cover (60x40x20 cm) for my Scheu turntable, from a company that makes display cases. It works fine and is much less expensive than covers offered by the turntable manufacturers themselves (70 Euro instead of 300 and more) http://www.sora.de/p/Massvitrinen.php

Other sources of information say the LP+download package will be released first, but a CD and seperate downloads will follow 2 weeks later. It would indeed be irrational for an artist to ignore the format which still sells the most. And even if the CD was dead, why oblige iPod users to buy an LP they cannot play if they only need the download coupon? If Costello's new album was only to be found in LP bins and the vinyl section of online stores, it would become a massive flop.

I use two italian Music Tools Alica racks, a wide one (2x4) for the electronics and a small one (1x3) for the turntable: http://www.musictools.eu/prodotti/alica.html

These are the most bizarre reissues in recent times. As if those 1970's 2LP reissues had some kind of historic relevance. It's almost like reissueing a 40 minute "Best of" compilation LP on CD.
-
These reissues are unnecessary, especially since RVG's remastering - in my experience with some of the first RVG reissues - is no better than the old OJC mastering. About the form of reissue - complete chronological editions comprising several albums or original albums (with bonus tracks where available) - everyone has his own preferences. I prefer to listen to whole sessions at once, whether on a dedicated CD or as part of a box set, and what I hate most is when sessions are spread over two CDs to make the music fit on a minimum number of discs. As if an extra disc (three 50-minute discs instead of two 75-minute CDs) would increase the cost that much.

That just about wraps it up for CDs then

I managed to rip the EMI CDS200 CDs without a problem with an old CD burner drive. The drive simply ignored the copyprotection. But when I replaced it with a DVD burner, I could not longer rip the CDs entirely. The first or last track (don't remember) could not be copied. Since I avoided those CDs, it didn't matter anyway. I have just one copyprotected CD. -

All those families who lost their homes because they couldn't afford paying higher interest rates, where are they living now? So many houses are for sale, but there must be a higher demand for other homes (smaller houses, appartments, in poorer areas). -

Unfortunately, even if copying is allowed under certain circumstances, there is no enforcable right to copy (except for some very specific situations, like enabling blind persons to circumvene copyprotection to make documents machine-readable). You are allowed to copy the CD for personal use, but if it doesn't work because of copyprotection, you can't force the manufacturer to make it possible In any event, a copyprotected CD can still be copied by recording it throught the sound card, just like an LP. So it's not uncopyable. Some copyright laws contain a provision that copyprotection must be indicated on the packaging, as well as by online merchants on the product page. I don't know if that's the case in Switzerland. Another situation where you have the law on your side is when a copyprotected CD is unplayable on regular equipment (CD or DVD player). That means the product is flawed and can be returned. -

The Autostart disabling trick only works with the Sunncomm copyprotection (briefly used by BMG in the US). The Cactus Datashield system (used by EMI Europe in 2003-2006) affects the CD data structure itself. Whether you're able to rip it mostly depends on the drive. EAC should be used in any event, it's the most reliable software. If you have a scratched disc that EAC cannot fully rip (it aborts due to too many errors), you can reduce the error sensitivity in the general EAC setting. -
I haven't heard the box set, but if the K2 remastering is the same as the one made for the individual K2 reissues (US or japan releases), then I can recommend it I have heard these K2 titles and they all sound very good, better than the OJC CDs: - Coltrane - Stardust - All mornin' long (Red Garland) - Soul Junction (Red Garland) - Kenny Burrell & John Coltrane
-
I know nothing about Mac, but maybe Cinematize does the trick: http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Video/Cinematize.shtml (the download is only a demo)
-
I see the term "vinyl rip" being mentionned frequently, and if it's not done in real time I don't want to imagine what happens to those LPs

As I wrote in the other thread, DVD Audio Extractor will allow you to do a complete DVD conversion during the trial period.
