Archie Shepp - Montreux One and Two

The DA Music Vol.2 CD I have is stereo, and the MP3 copy of a Vol.1 CD I have heard is also stereo, but it's quite narrow stereo. -

Caiman.com on amazon Suspect cdrs sold as new.
Claude replied to Jazztropic's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Given that Caiman can get all the items they list except for the small minority of stuff that is OOP, I don't think their offers are misleading. If the item is not in stock, that doesn't mean the seller doesn't have the ability to sell. We jazz fans may be more often in the situation where CDs have become hard to find, but on mainstream markets (pop music, movies) items going OOP is a much more rare situation. So if the seller fullfils the promise to get any item he lists in 99% of the cases, that's ok for me, especially if the prices are good. As Caiman seems to work without stocks, it would be impossible for them to continuously check the availablility status of every item they list. -

I think it's rather pointless to order a CD from a seller who doesn't have it in stock, when you know the CD is OOP. Caiman seems to have nothing in stock. I've been ordering almost all my CDs from Caiman in the past 6 months (at least 50 orders), and I received all but one of them. The CD I'm still waiting for is Art Blakey's "Child's dance", that I ordered 7 weeks ago and that seems to be hard to find http://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B000000ZE1/ -

I don't think DA, which belongs to the Pallas Group that also owns CD pressing plants, would be releasing CD-Rs. -
Sorry, I hadn't noticed that.

DA Music ("Deutsche Austrophon") is a german label that has licensed some Black Lion recordings: http://www.da-music.de/news/news.php3?sid=...;beitragnr=1532 The only DA Music CD I have (Archie Shepp "Montreux Two") was made at the german Pallas pressing plant and looks like a normal CD. -
Yes, the test result means that the problem is not the catridge, but another part of the turntable, from the tonearm wiring to the cable between the turntable and the amplifier (if there is a cable attached). I forgot, it could also be the phono input of the amp. You would have to connect a working turntable to the amp to find that out, or connect your turntable to another working amp.

Volume 2 has been reissued by da Music (Germany) in 2006: http://www.jpc.de/jpcng/jazz/detail/-/hnum/5357480 Volume 1 has not been reissued by that label, and seems to be hard to find. But it was reissued on CD in 1988: http://wc08.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&...10:0cfuxq8gld0e http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000046IW/ -
Go one step further in narrowing down the problem and switch the cartridge wiring between the channels (switch the cables between the sides on the cartridge). If the sound problem stays on the same channel it is the wiring/tone arm, if it changes to the other channel it is the cartridge. BTW, the Goldring manual is available here: http://www.vinylengine.com/library_model.p...cted_model=1012 (there is an error with the file name, you must rename the extension to pdf)

When confronted to an Internet problem, the first thing to do should be to check if it exists with a different browser as well. If you use IE, install Firefox. Both browsers can be installed and used at the same time. The other thing is to deactivate the Firewall temporarily, to see if that is the problem. Always change one thing at a time and check the result. If it doesn't help, undo the change and change something else. I don't know any competent diagnostics software.

From the Economist: The Case for Death Duties
Claude replied to Guy Berger's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Estate tax is a good thing as such, but it needs to be implemented in a way that it does not harm smaller family-owned enterprises and SMEs (which - at least in Europe - create most of the jobs). The statement that "tax is legalized theft" is incredibly naive, as tax is just one means of redistributing wealth from the richer to the poorer and compensating social injustice (and financing the governmement of course). Redistribution from the poorer to the richer is going on all the time. Why is it that the difference between the richest and the poorest populations in the developped countries has become much bigger over the last 20 years? Is it because the rich simply work harder or because they managed to use globalization in order not to have to share profits with those who helped making them? Is this just a clever way of doing business or legalized theft? -
Jochum's EMI recordings are now also available on Brilliant Classics, which is probably the cheapest high quality Bruckner cycle available (the price is actually much lower in Europe). They have added a Symphony 0 recorded by Skrowaczewski. http://www.arkivmusic.com/classical/Drilld...p;comp_id=45267

the real genetically modified food scandal

I agree with these points. We already have all the technological and economic means to stop hunger in the world, as well as contain AIDS and other epidemics, but the greed of the developped nations (and of many leaders of the developping countries) makes it impossible. -
For the 1963 Antibes concerts, there is a set which was only released on bootlegs (the CD sounds as good as the officially released part) and which is missing in the 63-64 box: http://www.plosin.com/milesAhead/Disco.aspx?id=CoteBlues And then there is the 1969 antibes concert: http://www.plosin.com/milesAhead/Disco.aspx?id=1969Miles

They could have made this a limited edition of 500, because that's probably the number they're going to sell, at that price. -
