Did you mean the DVD "Fly Jefferson Airplane"? I've heard a lot of good stuff about that recently released disk.

He did a handful of nice tunes with Santana. I was sorry that he didn't get more exposure with them.

That's one of my all-time favorite albums! And I would agree about JA being a great American band. I still have my vinyl versions of pretty much everything, too. B-) It's hard for me to listen to them objectively since I've been a fan for so long, but I suspect that for a newbie to their music, they might sound a bit dated. Maybe that's why they're not usually mentioned in the top tier of rock bands. BTW, the new series of CD reissues have been great - particularly this album. Did you notice the nice instrumental version of "Young Girl Sunday Blues" that starts at about 2:40 into the last track? (assuming you have the CD)

There was a Yes appearance on PBS' "Soundstage" tonight from their 35th anniversary tour. I watched it for the hell of it and actually found myself enjoying it. The guys are looking their age (except for Anderson), but still managed to pull off some of their hits. The only thing that didn't work was when they explained why they changed the feel of Roundabout (with a 'barrelhouse blues feel - ??!!?!) - and proceeded to play it. Didn't make sense - just sounded messy. Meanwhile, pulled out my "Fragile" LP and put it on for the first time in about 10 years. Still sounds pretty good.

To paraphrase Samuel Johnson, "When you are too old for Hendrix, you are too old for life" Works for ME! B-)

I try not to go into used stores (especially Amoeba!) unless I have stuff to trade or a credit slip already in my wallet. I will still wander into Streetlight (on 24th St) when I'm on errands in the neighborhood, but have been pretty good at keeping my impulsive purchasing in check. (not always easy, for sure) I did pick up Jack Bruce's re-mastered "Harmony Row" at the 25% sale, though.

John McLaughlin's first album "Extrapolation" is definitely worth picking up.

The only one I have is "Afternoon of a Georgia Faun". Very atmospheric. I took a jazz history class in college in the 70's and he was in residence there at the time. That was my first exposure to him.

I like it! It matches the graphics of the catalog and has a very easy user interface. Easy to find stuff. Good going Mosaic!

As much as I like all their albums (still have all the vinyl and the "complete" box), I can't imagine that this reunion will be anything other than embarrassing. It was great music in its time and at their AGE, at that time.

Blue Note had a series of reissues with this same basic cover (with slight variations). I have a Herbie Hancock and Dexter Gordon version of this.

I happened to be in NYC earlier this year when the Spring show was happening. It was a lot of fun. I even found a coupon for cheap admission in one of the local freebie newspapers. Had a good celebrity sighting, too - Lenny Kaye.

I've still got the vinyl. I should put it on this weekend. I always liked it much better than their later stuff, actually. A little more raw intensity.

A great tune, BTW. Not totally unlike "Stolen Moments". Also shows up on Booker Ervin's "Heavy!!!"

The only trouble I have with the notes is that they are so convoluted that you have to look in 3 places to find out what tune you are listening to and what album it comes from.

The Yardbirds "BBC Sessions" on Warner Archives is a pretty good set. It's all Beck or Page stuff, though. No Clapton, if that's what your looking for.
