I'm involved in compensation consulting. (yeah, I never heard of it myself until about 5 years ago). I used to do graphic "production". Which basically means a lot of PowerPoint reports and slide shows. Nothing too creative, that's for sure. In 2000 I got a freelance job in a small, fast-growing compensation consulting firm that specialized in high-tech. The owner managed to keep the business humming long enough to sell it out to a division of a mega-financial firm. I stayed on for the transition and managed to make a lateral move into the survey group. We take employee data from HR departments of (mostly) large companies and publish surveys about compensation. I currently lead the production of our Board of Directors Compensation and Corporate Governance survey.

I just picked up "Now!" which is MUCH more interesting than I was expecting. Great vocals, Harold Land is smokin' and even the (live!) LA Symphony tunes held my interest (I usually avoid strings when possible). Anyone else like this one?

Giddins had a chat on JazzCorner today and mentioned this as an album that he's really looking forward to this year.

I was pretty happy to pick up a print of the Francis Wolff photo used on the "Newks Time" cover from Mosaic (on sale!) recently. It's an 8x10 image that's shows the entire sax and some of the surrounding studio (living room). That cover is cropped pretty tight.

All Music gives that David S. Ware album ("Corridors & Parallels") a RAVE review. It's in my "Save for later" list as we speak. Thanks for the heads-up on that label.

I'm assuming that's the same music that's on the Savoy album I have. Except mine's a 1986 reissue with a very uninspired (yet strangely psychedelic) cover.

I'll second THAT one. No question - a great album. My only objection is that it's so short. At only 33 minutes, I wonder if there is music from this session lying around collecting dust somewhere?

The only Hardman I have, actually, is the Savoy LP - "Saying Something". It's really good. I enjoy it a lot. He has a great tone and a nice sense of melody. The rest of the band is: Sonny Redd (Kyner) - alto Ronnie Matthews - piano Bob Cunningham/Doug Watkins - bass Jimmy Cobb - drums

Don't forget Harold on Lee Morgan's "The Giggolo" and "Live at the Lighthouse"!

I guess it depends on how picky you are and how you are playing the files. I use them mostly on my MP3 player and they sound fine. I suppose if you had an audiophile system in your house, you might notice the compression. You should try the FREE 50-song trial and listen for yourself. That's the best way to tell.

Another one I just remembered......and am listening to it now: The Byrds - "(Untitled/Unissued)" - The first disk is the original "(Untitled)" album and the second is alternate takes and more live stuff.

Oh, yeah? I got the FOUR CD version. B-) .... my bad.

Great! I just recently picked up the Duke/Hawk set that BMG had in their "Clearance" section for $1.99. It's STILL available for that price, BTW!

I think everyone here would agree that the 4CD set of Lee Morgan - "Live at the Lighthouse" is one of the great, and killer "expanded" releases.

This is so cool. That just happens to be when I'm going to be in NYC! I'll definitely be checking out the "preview".

The Blind Faith Deluxe set is interesting. I like it, but it's not for everyone. The second disk is just four long tracks of jamming. Depends on how much you want to listen those guys noodle.

Just pick up the Larry Young Mosaic box. That's all you'll need for a while! B-) ... unfortunately it'll cost ya' - it's OOP. But if you can find it for a reasonable price somewhere - pick it up! (BTW, it won't be reasonable on ebay)

I couldn't tell for sure - it's so small. Actually, as long as this is about Dryden, the cover of "Surrealistic Pillow" was re-cropped at the waist because there's a noticable bulge in Spencer's pants
