  1. Some of those are still in print, so you could check the Mosaic website and make him an offer based on what you could get it for new. Thad Jones and Curtis Fuller are on the hard bop side, if you want to get those. They both went OOP about a year and a half ago and are 3CD sets (orig price $48). They typically sell on ebay for between $70-$100. [update] - There's a Thad Jones on ebay now that's up to $150, but I think that's an aberration.
  2. September 18, 2004 Tape of Hendrix Stockholm Concert Found By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) -- Technicians at Sweden's public television have unearthed an unexpected delight for music lovers -- a complete original recording of a Jimi Hendrix concert in Stockholm from 1969 on a tape long thought to have been destroyed. The unmarked tape was recently found stashed on a shelf deep inside the station's enormous archives during a project to transfer archived material from tape and film to digital, SVT spokeswoman Catarina Wilson said Friday. "They looked through the tape and found it had some Jimi Hendrix,'' Wilson said. "Then they saw it had a lot of Jimi Hendrix -- the entire concert, which is what makes this tape unique.'' The black-and-white recording from Stockholm's concert hall was ordered destroyed by a producer in 1969, a time when it was too expensive to keep all raw footage, Wilson said. Hendrix died in 1970. Wilson said it was likely that one of the state-run network's workers, perhaps a Hendrix fan, stashed it on the shelf, where it sat for 35 years gathering dust. Part of the 56-minute concert was broadcast on SVT in 1969, before the Jimi Hendrix Experience disbanded, but it has never been shown in its entirety. SVT is determining if it still has the rights to show the entire broadcast of the concert. "Of course we realize that this is great material that we would love to show,'' Wilson said.
  3. Not exactly earth-shattering prices. But a nice gesture, anyway.
  4. If you list them, someone will surely be able to price them out for you.
  5. Still, I don't get the list price on this thing. Mosaic sets are significantly cheaper than this (list price-wise). Max Roach's 7CD box is $112.
  6. Lon - Maybe you're right, although I remember picking it up for less than $50 at the time. I think the list prices I am seeing now are those new non-metal spine releases.
  7. I'm wondering why this one lists for $130 (7 CDs) and Jack Johnson (5 CDs) listed for $70. It's almost twice as much!

  9. I've still got vinyl of "Bush Dance". Maybe I'll just stick with that.
  10. I picked up "Breakthrough" within the past couple of years. In the March 2004 Mosaic catalog (#53), Cuscuna mentions that there will be a Pullen/Adams Select set "later this year".
  11. Finally getting some relief here in SF. Today was in the 70's and it's much cooler this evening. I even saw a hint of fog this afternoon. Bring it ON!!!
  12. I don't have a problem with the space program in general. I do have a problem with hairbrained schemes like Bush's proposal to send humans to Mars. Now THAT'S a monumental waste of time, research and money. It's been often proven that using robotics to explore space is much less costly and infinitely more productive on any number of levels.
  13. Check out Telegraph Avenue on a summer day... That's OK.......I work on Market Street - close enough.

Not to mention that Pearl's is right across the street from Jack Kerouac alley and City Lights Bookstore (a city landmark!).
  15. I thought the the headlines and photos today were classic tabloid "UFO" fare. If I didn't already know about this, I would have thought that the aliens had landed!
  16. [HEAVY sigh ...] OK, Lon.......I guess I gotta keep that box, too.
  17. Yeah - I have that one too. It's a weird set because it was when MCA owned the rights. Besides the rather worthless "Ultimate Experience" disk, they created new covers for each album (although they did print the original on the reverse side of the booklet). They had extensive liner notes and a set of "collectors stamps" within each booklet, too. I keep thinking I'm going to dump this one and re-buy the newer Eddie Kramer remasters someday. ... someday.
  18. Yeah...........it's DRY heat!
  19. I can't believe that I still don't have that "Experience" box. Maybe I'll break down and pick it up on my next Amoeba run. There's a fun (but flawed - selection-wise, I think) box from Rhino called "Cowabunga - The Surf Box", which is - DUH! - a collection of instrumental surf tunes. I believe that it's OOP, but probably turns up in the used stores periodically.
  20. Ditto pretty much everything that RainyDay said. This hot Bay Area weather SUCKS! To top it off, my landlord decided to do repairs on my shower last week ... and, of course, they haven't finished yet. So, I can't even take an afternoon shower to cool down. I've been traveling to the gym and a friend's house for morning showers.

  23. I never noticed that he was on all of those. SMOKIN' for sure!
