How is this boxed set in terms of both selection and sound quality? A local store has this one, and several others priced at $8. All in great shape. They also have Ben Webster. I can't think of the others right now... Don't think I've got any Pee Wee...would this be a good introduction? Edit: I remembered and just found the thread about these boxed sets. Seems they're worth the bucks. Not that $8 is that much. I scanned through the booklets and they seem to be cross-licensed. You have no Pee Wee??? I have tons and never tire of them. I don't have the Jazz Giants box, but I know where I can get it. This weekend, if I can make it downtown. I am amazed at how many boxed collections were released in the late fifties, early sixties by mail-order. And, they were relatively inexpensive. But, the best part is that when I find them now, many of them are as close to mint as I've seen any records. It seems as if people bought them because they were seduced by the great prices, but once they had them, didn't play them, or played them very seldom. Sometimes one of the records has been played, judging by the slightly more wear on the paper sleeve. So, I guess that some people bought the sets for just part of the track list. Jazz Giants are a relatively low-cost, good introduction to the featured artist, if you're not familiar with their work, I think, before committing yourself to individual records. Hi Patricia, I only just now found your reply. I'd say that's a good enough recommendation for me. I'm sure my wife will be thrilled... Thanks. Well, I went back and picked up the Pee Wee set. And the Ben Webster. And the Art Tatum. And the Bix Beiderbecke. Hey, this music is all really old... One of the early tracks on the Bix set was really well recorded. You can hear the bass just perfectly. Man, this is all new to me...

The 200gm vinyl of "Watkins At Large" is mighty fine. I finally got it during the last True Blue sale. First-class all the way.

From the rumors I've heard. the Beatles catalog is being remastered. It is with these new remastered versions that the Beatles will finally go "digital" download-wise. Hopefully well-mastered, mono & stereo versions on 1 disc, plus SACDs/DVD-As containing high-rez versions of same plus 5.1 high-rez mixes. Hoping for the best, expecting the worst...

Received these the other day... They're dang-near brand new! Thanks! Oh, and that bonus track on that Mr. T album is the best track on there!

Just finished: Wayne Shorter - The All Seeing Eye - BN NY USA Mono Now playing: Phil Woods - Altology - Prestge mid-70's two-fer - playing side 3. Side 4 seems likely as it begins with a favorite, Miles' "Solar." But this version will be a first-time listen.

I have the name "Wally" written on some of my LPs, too. Where did you buy that? MG Wally Traugott did most ( all? )of the Connoisseur Series Lp issues. Maybe some of the Rare Grooves Lps as well. Usually has the "Mastered at Capitol" machine-stamp, with a "Wally" hand-written next to it. I do not recall where I got this particular copy, but a local mom n' pop vinyl shop in this area still has a SEALED copy of Jackie Mac's "Destination Out!". I have one of these as well and think it sounds great. I think I even started a thread in the past offering to pick it up for any interested board member. That was back when they also still had a copy of Duke Pearson's "Sweet Honey Bee." Alas, someone finally snagged that one... My offer stands...

Great photo of the band set up in the studio in the gatefold of the Lp...
