  1. It's terrible what they've done to the site. It's so slow, I don't even want to use it anymore.
  2. Bud Powell's opening on Parisian Thoroughfare -- it just sounds so fun.
  3. Just like the way Farlow plays. I may be crazy, but does anyone else detect a "Tristano School" feel to the playing of Farlow?
  4. If that's the price, then I'm not all that bummed about two cds worth of interviews -- not in the least. Seven cds of unreleased Ayler for $100 is a great price (of course, nine cds on unreleased Ayler would've been better ).
  5. I've been enjoying very much the first volume of the Pure Jerry Series, which is: The Jerry Garcia Band: Theatre 1839, San Francisco, July 29 & 30, 1977. It really is pure Jerry. If you don't like Garcia's approach music, don't get this. If you do though, you'll love this music. It's a three cd set, and it has songs like Mystery Train, Simple Twist of Fate, I Second That Emotion, The Harder They Come, and a bunch of other cool stuff. Garcia was in great form these two nights, it seems as if 1977 he could do no wrong. Even Donna Jean Godchaux is halfway decent. You can only order this off of Jerrygarcia.com, but it's worth it if you like the Dead or Garcia.
  6. With any luck, a E.L.O. song will be on the soundtrack.
  7. The thread about Soulstation's "new avatar" reminded of this thread as one of the all-time high points in crystal ball gazing in Organissimo Forum history. Edit for my terrible spelling.
  8. Tal Farlow. This session with Bob Envoldsen, Bill Perkins, Bob Gordon, Monte Budwig, and Larance Marable. Very nice West Coast feel to the whole session, and what a loss in the passing of Bob Gordon. In fact, this Farlow Mosaic has a bittersweet quality to it, in that Eddie Costa & Bob Gordon play great on this set, and both died way too young.
  9. Lps: --- Love and Rockets: Earth, Sun, Moon --- Red Norvo: Red Norvo Trio with Tal Farlow and Charles Mingus Savoy Sessions
  10. This keep on sounding like a set for the ages, but the 2 cds worth on interviews still bugs that heck out of me.
  11. Just go ahead and jump! The sound quality is outstanding on this Mosaic, plus they have some alternat takes on them. This set is an outstanding example of why Mosaic is top-of-the-line when it comes to quality. I admit that I haven't been too excited with Mosiac the past couple of years, the selections didn't excite me in the least, but the Farlow, 10+ on all levels. David Lee Roth even says: "Jump on this set!"
  12. Come... Come... The Dark Side beckons.... Buy a turntable...
  13. This is what I love about Catesta & Couw: 9,200 posts between the two of them, and 9,100 are about beer.
  14. Weren't they grouped with one of the McGhee Connoisseurs? yes BN 95748 You guys are correct. Looking more closely at the liners it says, "Two never previously available session on a 12" LP". These two session were part of the 10" series. side 1: 1. Jarm 2. Goodbye 3. Futurity 4. Shabozz 5. Tranqulity 6. Ittpanna Personel: Howard Mc Ghee (tp). Gigi Gryce (as&fl). Tal Farlow (g). Horace Silver (p). Percy Heath (bass). Walter Bolden (dm). New York, June 8, 1953 side 2: 1. Lover 2. Flamingo 3. Splash 4. Rock N' Rye 5. All Through the Night 6. Tina Personel: Tal Farlow (g). Don Aarone (g). Clyde Lombardi (bass). Joe Morello (dm). New York, November 4, 1953 Nice music.
  15. I received my set yesterday as well, but it's already #462 Luca Just think a ton of people pre-ordered this set since these Verve sides were so hard to get, and so famous. This is a great set that Mosaic put out and is, to my mind, the reissue of the year. One thing this set has done is cost me more money; this morning I went to Amoeba Records and was able to pick up 4 of the 6 Concord Jazz records Farlow released. The Concords have a different quality of playing to them, very interesting to hear. Also picked up this reissue lp of his early Blue Note sessions, supposedly "unrealeased". I'll have to check to see if those made to cd yet.
  16. Dave Brubeck: Jazz Goes to College. Very nice "six-eye" promo copy.
  17. I kid you not...

    Funny Rat

I never thought I'd be in the top twenty! (Of course there's a rapid fall off from the first few posters...) I was tied with Clunky with 32 posts, so I just wanted to forge ahead. Carry on...
  19. For one thing, when you do talk about Free-Jazz, or A/G on other threads, you get a bunch of people who always grip about how "That's not jazz, it's just noise!" I, for one, am just damn tired of that act, so I don't even bother to talk about the kind of jazz I mostly listen to on anything but the "Funny Rat" thread.
  20. Yeah, the "Babe Thread", what's that all about anyway?
  21. YES! I wonder why there was never an LP version of the "Jack Johnson" sessions... The story I keep hearing is that "Electric Miles" just doesn't sell, while the "Acoustic Miles" does sell.
  22. O.K., I'll be sure not to mention one of my all-time jams of the Dead from this box: Beatiful Jam. Oh, and forget this Dark Star Jam>Spanish Jam>U.S. Blues thing -- just terrible!
