jeffcrom Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 (edited) Taking a page from the book of The Magnificent Goldberg, I'm listening to a sermon, "The Midnight Revival" by Rev. Jasper Williams, Jr. of Atlanta's Salem Baptist Church on the AIR (Atlanta International Records) label. Afterwards: The Rev. Williams builds it up like a long Coltrane solo. jeffcrom Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 The Dixie Hummingbirds - We Love You Like a Rock (Peacock). An effort to make the Birds "happening" a la 1973. Some of it seems kind of corny 37 years later, but the best tracks are excellent. And Stevie Wonder plays on "Jesus Children," which he wrote. Quote
brownie Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Kenny Drew Trio 'Pal Joey' (Riverside, stereo, black label) with Wilbur Ware and Philly Joe Jones! Quote

The Magnificent Goldberg Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Jimmy Forrest - Out of the Forrest - Prestige (Abbey test pressing - sounds OK to me, but no one signed it off for production Was this Joe Zawinul's first American recording? He's playing pretty funky on it, all right. MG Quote
porcy62 Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 (edited) Andrew Hill Mosaic, currently 'Black Fire' edit: what a magnificient player! His solos, though 'modernist' never loose the drama or the lyricism, the expression of the emotions. Edited March 2, 2010 by porcy62 Quote

The Magnificent Goldberg Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 A nice afternoon, up and down, turning over LPs Jesse Morrison - The versatility of Jesse Morrison - Abet - nice album with very strange sleeve featuring much green hair D: I met Jesse in 1996; a very nice guy. This LP is like him. Jack Wilson - The jazz organs - Vault (promo) - Wilson duets with Ghenghis Kyle and Henry Cain. With Gene Edwards, Leroy Vinnegar and Donald Bailey or John Gray and Philly Joe replacing Edwards and Bailey. A very interesting selection of tunes. The B C & M Choir - My sweet Lord - Creed (black label) - not only the title track but a version of "Let it be me" with completely different words. King Curtis - Soul twist - Enjoy (Trip) The Brooklyn All Stars - Walk tall - Jewel - one of my favourite post-fifties gospel quartets. now The Dixie Hummingbirds - Live - Peacock (ABC) - one of the last Peacock albums to be released by ABC and there's not a THING missing here. MG Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 T-Bone Walker - T-Bone blues - Atlantic (WEA UK) Late fities T-Bone was still the greatest! now, one for Chewy Joe Houston - Doin' the twist - Crown MG Quote
