Teasing the Korean Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 Nick Drake - Fruit Tree - Island, box set with the three issued albums. Doesn't your copy come with the 4th album of unreleased stuff? It's on mine. Quote
porcy62 Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 Nick Drake - Fruit Tree - Island, box set with the three issued albums. Doesn't your copy come with the 4th album of unreleased stuff? It's on mine. Unfortunately not. I bought it around 1980, I guess it was the first pressing, before Drake's rediscovery. Quote
jeffcrom Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 Tony Parenti - Jazz Goes Underground (Jazzology) Genial dixieland from 1969, recorded in Underground Atlanta - the entertainment district under the viaducts. Parenti is teamed mostly with local guys from the then-thriving Atlanta Dixieland scene. I was too young to catch much of that, although as a young man I did play a few gigs with Spider Ridgeway, who plays drums here. An interesting slice of history for an Atlanta guy. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted August 8, 2010 Report Posted August 8, 2010 (edited) Monk - Monk - Columbia (2-eye stereo) Just realized I have 25 Monk albums. Boy, things add up fast! Edited August 8, 2010 by Teasing the Korean Quote

brownie Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 (edited) Bill Evans Trio 'Live in Buenos Aires 1979' (Yellow Note, Argentina), disc 2 the original vinyl version - a Mosaic type set - of this great concert is much better than the West Wind double CD reissue which is disfigured by way too much hum (not heard on LP)! The CD reissue should be avoided at all costs Edited August 10, 2010 by brownie Quote
brownie Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 Lenny McBrowne and the 4 Souls (Pacific Jazz) prompted to listen to this by Romualdo's post in the Discography forum! A really good album! Quote

Royal Oak Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 Currently slugging my way through "Face To Face" by the Kinks. Having already listened to "The Kinks" and "Beatles For Sale" this evening, I'm very tired of mid-60s beat groups. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 Wrong Face to Face!, you would not have to "slug your way through" The Baby Face Willette disc! Quote
paul secor Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 Count Basie: Kansas City 3 - For the Second Time (Pablo) Locked in on Ray Brown's playing when I listened to this - rock solid bass. Quote

jeffcrom Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 Howlin' Wolf: Moanin' in the Moonlight (Chess/P-Vine Japan) :tup It might be exaggerating to say this (but not by much): Howlin' Wolf got me through a divorce 15 years ago. Well, R. L. Burnside helped a lot, too. Quote
jeffcrom Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 (edited) Louis Prima and His New Orleans Gang - Swing Me With Rhythm (British Decca) 1934-35 recordings; Sidney Arodin plays clarinet on the earlier tracks, Pee Wee Russell on the later ones. Edited August 11, 2010 by jeffcrom Quote

jeffcrom Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 Johnny Hodges - The Eleventh Hour (Verve mono) More "lounge" than jazz, really, with strings arranged by Oliver Nelson and Rabbit mostly just playing the melody. But what a great thing that is. Quote

mjazzg Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 Ballads - Paul Bley (ECM) so pleased to have just tracked down a nice clean copy. What an album Quote

jeffcrom Posted August 13, 2010 Report Posted August 13, 2010 After some Hank Mobley, one of those unpromising-looking 50s/60s Dave Tarras records - Jewish Melodies on Period. This one features an excellent little eight-piece klezmer band, with Tarras' son-in-law Sam Musiker on tenor sax (and probably arrangements). Quote
ajf67 Posted August 13, 2010 Report Posted August 13, 2010 Howlin' Wolf: Moanin' in the Moonlight (Chess/P-Vine Japan) What an awesome LP. One of the all-time great blues albums. Gene Shaw 'Carnival Sketches' (Argo, mono, sand-colored label) This is one of the reasons I love this thread. I haven't listened to this one in a long time, and now I'm reminded to get it out. I got it because a friend pointed this out at a garage sale a long time ago and said I should buy it ($2). Quote
