The Magnificent Goldberg Posted May 25, 2012 Report Posted May 25, 2012 All tenor. Sweet date. Charles Davis is one of those players who's not particularly "profound" by conventional "critical" standards, but he's just so damn....personal in everything he plays that I end up saying OH WELL!!! about all that. Personal is profound in my book, so bring it on, some Charles Davis. And you - yeah, you - if you think you might even halfway like this record and don't already have it, go get it. Shouldn't be too hard to find. http://www.dustygroove.com/item.php?id=r6cwv368fj Still sealed bitches, STILL SEALED!!!! And only fonineynine! Well, I sprang for it! Never seen this one before. I agree with you about CHarles Davis. $4-99 PLUS $9-16 postage - effin liberty, with no RVG in dead wax. Thanks Jim. Well, just ordered new turntable Project Genie MK3 Arrives Tuesday or Wednesday - whenever you need to get something delivered quickly, it's bank holiday. MG Quote

BillF Posted May 26, 2012 Report Posted May 26, 2012 Premier class Powell tracks! I have them on this: Wow--that's cool. When is that release from? I've had it since the early 1960s. It has your 8 tracks, plus 4 less impressive tracks from a later session: "Embraceable You", "My Heart Stood Still", "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To" and "Burt Covers Bud". Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted May 26, 2012 Report Posted May 26, 2012 Gene Ammons & Dexter Gordon - The Chase (Purple lable Van Gelder). As I put it on the turntable, I realized that I had never picked up the CD of this. Quote

jeffcrom Posted May 27, 2012 Report Posted May 27, 2012 The World of Duke Ellington, Volume 3 (Columbia). I love these three double-LP sets, which cover Ellington's late-40's/early 50's Columbia recordings better than just about anywhere else. My copies are all in fake stereo, but they don't sound bad with a mono cartridge - just a little too reverb-y. Quote

jeffcrom Posted May 27, 2012 Report Posted May 27, 2012 Lambert, Hendricks and Ross - Sing a Song of Basie (ABC Paramount mono). Not a group I listen to often, but I found a very nice copy of their first album in the dollar bin down the street. It's a hoot - just a really fun album. Quote

jeffcrom Posted May 30, 2012 Report Posted May 30, 2012 Miles Davis - Miles at Fillmore (Columbia). Sides one & two. There's so much amazing stuff here. It goes without saying that I'd love to hear the unedited performances. They'll be issued, I'm sure - I just hope it's within my lifetime. Quote
