jeffcrom Posted August 3, 2013 Report Posted August 3, 2013 Duke of Iron - Trinidad's Greatest Calypso Singer (Monogram 10"). My Monogram record has the same cover art as this Virgin isle issue. Quote
jeffcrom Posted August 3, 2013 Report Posted August 3, 2013 Charlie Mariano - Modern Saxaphone Stylings (sic) (Imperial 10"). In a 10" LP mood, i guess. This is pretty wonderful, with Herb Pomeroy and Jaki Byard, circa 1950-51. Quote
jeffcrom Posted August 3, 2013 Report Posted August 3, 2013 Again with the 10" LPs! Jamming at Rudi's, Vol. 2 (Circle 10"). Not the greatest jazz album ever recorded, but still kind of miraculous. 25 minutes or so of "mainstream" jazz recorded in Rudi Blesh's apartment in 1951, with Hot Lips Page, Tyree Glenn, Paul Quinichette, Kenny Kersey, Walter Page, Sonny Greer, and some rare electric guitar work by Danny Barker. colinmce Posted August 3, 2013 Report Posted August 3, 2013 Jimmy Lyons Quintet - We Sneezawee (Black Saint) Stanley Crouch's notes are completely dickheaded, about how the avant grade lacks masterful instrumentalists, and how the inept cloak themselves in made-up concepts & theories. Classic example of extrapolating one's own experiences to the whole? Quote

paul secor Posted August 3, 2013 Report Posted August 3, 2013 (edited) What's on that one, Paul? The Bill Evans, that is. It's a quintet session from 1962 with Evans, Zoot Sims, Jim Hall, Ron Carter, and Philly Joe Jones. It was first issued as a Japanese LP. It's been issued in the U.S. on CD as Loose Blues. Grant Green: Solid (BN/King Japan) Oh, that's a nice sleeve! I never saw that one before. Same artist who did 'Matador'. MG The actual cover is a somewhat lighter shade of green than the color in the image I posted. Edited August 3, 2013 by paul secor Quote
