jeffcrom Posted December 4, 2016 Report Posted December 4, 2016 Eddie Costa / Vinnie Burke Trio (Josie). 1962 reissue of the Jubilee album. Jesper Thilo / Clark Terry Quintet - Tribute to Frog (Storyville). Luckily, there's no overt imitation here, just a program of tunes (mostly) associated with Ben Webster. Terry is in excellent form. On a personal note, I'll always cherish the evening I spent in a little club in Copenhagen, listening to Thilo with just a handful of other patrons. Quote
jeffcrom Posted December 4, 2016 Report Posted December 4, 2016 Son House - The Real Delta Blues (Blue Goose). Maybe the Son House I would take to a desert island. Or maybe not - that's a tough choice. But this version of "Pony Blues" is one for the ages. Quote

I bought my own copy a year or two later... A good friend of mine still has their debut single which is also a killer... I wish I had that Tasque Force single, even if I can't stand 7"! Quote

Leeway Posted December 4, 2016 Report Posted December 4, 2016 I should have mentioned that those Actuel Doubles (Two-Fers?) always strike me as a bit quirky coming from an avant label. STEAM is a good one. Quote

This and "revenge" are some overlooked gems. mjazzg Posted December 5, 2016 Report Posted December 5, 2016 Jimmy Giuffre - The Jimmy Giuffre Clarinet [Atlantic] new arrival, purchased largely off the back of positive comments on this board. What a tremendous listen, so many facets to the playing and arrangements. I'll admit that the foot-tapping threw me on first listen (sounded more like a pressing fault ) Quote

Leeway Posted December 5, 2016 Report Posted December 5, 2016 (edited) Modern Jazz From West Germany Wewerka Archive (1962-1968) –Double LP. Cool in a retro way, with harbingers of more audacious music to come for at least some of the musicians playing here. Edited December 5, 2016 by Leeway Quote

clifford_thornton Posted December 5, 2016 Report Posted December 5, 2016 Yeah, that looks swell. Mostly familiar players but I doubt I have these performances elsewhere. Quote
