Paul Jeffrey—/———Electrifying sounds of Paul Jeffrey ————( Harkit UK)

recent reissue of Savoy 1968 recording. Comes with CD,new liner notes by Simon Spillett. Hard to know if this is a boot. Sound is fine (perhaps a shade dull ) but Savoy recordings of this era weren’t too consistent. Music great of course

That looks promising, how is it?

I have about 50 PB recordings. If I only could keep one of them, it would be this one. More so than most PB recordings, this is a meeting of equally strong musicians, PB is not dominating here and maybe not as forceful as in some of his other recordings. The result is stunning.

My copy is a reissue from Trost Records. Highly recommended.

I'd agree with that assessment except there's a couple I'd keep before this one. I typed something recently about another Brotzmann recording being at the Jazzier end of the spectrum and I think the same goes for this. The rhythm section really lay down something that PB responds to in a very responsive manner and perhaps less assertive than on many of his recordings.

This is another good one with Hopkins onboard

Thinking man's cover art ....

Indeed - all of his BN album covers are great.

The Dr. was interviewed on Gilles Peterson’s BBC6 show last week prior to a London club appearance. Came across as a great guy.

Chick Corea - Now He Sings, Now He Sobs - Solid State

Anyone know who is backing him?  There are no credits on my copy.

Miroslav Vitous and Roy Haynes.  :tup

Thanks.  Amazing that they couldn't find space for this in a gatefold cover, yet they devote space to printing - in a giant font, no less - Chick Corea's poem that he wrote as stoned sophomore.

I read that Chick rates this as his favorite among his own albums.  This was never in the bins when I started shopping for jazz in the late 1970s.  I found a used copy for two bucks.

Where were you shopping? It was always available back in my day. Solid State was by then under the UA umbrella and Chick was a "star".

But before then, the record had quite a cult following. Future Star UNT Piano Prof Dan Haerle did an annotated transcription of "Matrix" in DB long before the RTF era, and now, look at this, Bert Ligon was one of Haerle's star students (and a perfectly fine player).

What I get most out of this slowed-down audio is that Roy Haynes!
