sidewinder Posted May 29, 2018 Report Posted May 29, 2018 (edited) Yep, my copy remains pretty pristine and bought in 1976 within days of release from the local vinyl store of the time (sadly no longer operating although it lasted until a few years ago). It is still sounding superb. I also have a CBS Sony copy but if anything I prefer the UK version. The UK issue of ‘Big Fun’ is also very good. Edited May 29, 2018 by sidewinder Quote

Does anyone know when this album is from? My copy doesn't have any dates. I assume very late 1950s or very early 1960s. 5 hours ago, BillF said: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Magic_Touch_(Tadd_Dameron_album) February 27, March 9, and April 16, 1962 - to be exact. Quote

clifford_thornton Posted May 30, 2018 Report Posted May 30, 2018 Don Pullen + Milford Graves -- Nommo -- (SRP, US) think I appreciate this album more now, listening to it back to back with In Concert at Yale University. There's an interesting flow to the program and they go together better than apart. Quote

That would be kinda funny for an album called "Beaver is my name". Quote
mjazzg Posted May 30, 2018 Report Posted May 30, 2018 I hadn't noticed that but I think you're correct. Looking at the back cover picture labelled Francis Haynes it's obviously the man on the front cover. How odd Quote
clifford_thornton Posted May 31, 2018 Report Posted May 31, 2018 Looks nice. Now: David Eyges + Byard Lancaster -- The Arrow -- (Music Unlimited, US) Quote

New Orleans Now! -- (Prescription, US) In 1987, I went to the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, and one of the groups I saw was Ramsey McLean and the Survivors. Don Cherry was supposed to be their guest, but for some reason he was not there. It didn't matter, the group was fantastic. Unfortunately, he died very young (not too long after that recording, I think). Edited May 31, 2018 by kh1958 Quote

I have a strong recollection of reading of his death, but I must admit I could find nothing on the internet. He appeared at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival almost every year from 1979-1991, but not a single time since then. Well, I'm glad he's alive then; it must be a false memory on my part.
