Oregon/Elvin Jones, Together (Vanguard)

I always wondered what the story was with this goofy cover. I get that it was before advanced photo editing but still... just plunking a picture of Elvin into it seems strange even then.

Perhaps there was no photographer at the session?

According to Ralph Towner, the band showed up at the photo shoot to find Elvin passed out after a bender. "So, what do they do? They put this picture of the four of us on the cover and put this big smiling picture of Elvin’s face on it like a sticker glued on top with these drumsticks around it. The art director was so bad." Innerviews: Ralph Towner - Unfolding Stories

an original pressing that sounds amazing. What a great soundscape. Definitely my favorite of Shepps big band projects. I think quite some of the Afrocentric Freejazz  (think of Hannibal for instance) of  this decade were spoiled by bad vocalists but the girls (and guy) on this album could sing 👍

other than the Grant, I have all those that you've posted on LP. Excellent.

Have you got Tyler’s Voyage for Jericho? That’s one I am really on te hunt for but ultra rare and expensive

Yep. A reissue is coming, from the tapes.

Really? You just made my day Clifford! That’s great news. I was seriously considering saving up money to buy an original in the end. Are you able to give a little more details or not (when?, label?) 😇
