jeffcrom Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 George Adams/Don Pullen Quartet - Life Line (Timeless) Picked this one up yesterday at the little record store down the street. It was my last music purchase before my attempt to go through the whole month of August without buying any records or CDs. My brain, wallet, and shelves need a break. Quote
JohnS Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 Michel Legrand; Legrand Jazz. Japanese Philips. A space-age bachelor essential. I've not played this in years, much more enjoyable than I remembered. Excellent album. Quote
sidewinder Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 Jack McDuff 'Rock Candy' (UK Prestige, 2LP) Can't go wrong with these 24000 series twofers. Booker Ervin - The In Between. A nice original copy. Time to dig that gem back out of its lair.. Quote

WorldB3 Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 Taru - Lee Morgan. When my wife asks how many Lee Morgan records do you have I saw not enough. Love George Benson's Grant Green-isms on the boogaloo tracks on this. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 Michel Legrand; Legrand Jazz. Japanese Philips. A space-age bachelor essential. I've not played this in years, much more enjoyable than I remembered. Excellent album. I am pretty awed by Michel Legrand. I would be amazed enough at his composing and arranging, but he's also one hell of a pianist and a very good, if idiosyncratic, singer. Quote
WorldB3 Posted August 2, 2009 Report Posted August 2, 2009 Michel Legrand; Legrand Jazz. Did you ever see him in the movie "Cléo de 5 à 7" (1962) He basically plays himself but he is great. Fans of 60's French cinema will get a kick out it. I going to pick up that record asap. Quote
kh1958 Posted August 2, 2009 Report Posted August 2, 2009 Presenting the Art Tatum Trio (Verve, trumpet label) Herbie Mann--Hold On, I'm Comin' (Atlantic)--with David Newman and Sonny Sharrock. John Coltrane--Cosmic Music (Impulse, red and black) Quote

jeffcrom Posted August 3, 2009 Report Posted August 3, 2009 Ornette Coleman - Friends and Neighbors: Live on Prince Street (Flying Dutchman). Why haven't I listened to this in a while? This quartet - Coleman, Redman, Haden, & Blackwell - was as good as any band Ornette led. Quote

sidewinder Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 (edited) Kenny Wheeler - Gnu High - (ECM, US pressing) Definitely my favourite "Keith Jarrett as sideman" performance ! How is the US ECM pressing quality? I have a couple of Canadian pressings (e.g. a copy of Priester's 'Polarization') and the sound isn't quite as good as German pressings, a bit more noise. clifford_thornton Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 Sounds fine to me; not as much "punch" as the German pressings tho I haven't compared the two on this title. Quote
jeffcrom Posted August 6, 2009 Report Posted August 6, 2009 Michael J. Smith - Totality (Red). Beautiful, introspective improvising from an interesting guy. I never really thought of him as a "jazz" musician (and I played with him for a year), but there is a great "Angel Eyes" here on which he shows that he knows the changes just fine, thank you very much.
