Pim Posted October 5 Report Posted October 5 Amazing record. The title song is one of the most catchy modal jazz themes I know. Quote
Pim Posted October 5 Report Posted October 5 (edited) It took me long to get to this record. I think it was Johnny Dyani who took me there and now it's one of my favorites. You Ain't Gonna Know Me 'Cos You Think You Know Me is one of the most beautiful melodies I know. Edited October 5 by Pim Quote

It's not an orchestra, it's a quintet. Quote

Have several Verve LPs consisting of a small groups (combo) but have 'orchestra' in the title. Here is an example: Edited October 8 by jazzcorner Quote

Niko Posted October 8 Report Posted October 8 (edited) I'll prefer an orchestra over a quartet that's being called a trio any time... Now playing, one of today's finds: Edited October 8 by Niko Quote
corto maltese Posted October 8 Report Posted October 8 Milo Fine's duo with Steve Gnitka was called "The Milo Fine Free Jazz Ensemble". That seemed rather sad for Steve, I thought. Quote

Ten? I think it's more about having a (larger) group of musicians that covers all four of the instrument families; strings (e.g. bass), woodwinds (saxophone), brass (trumpet) and percussion (drums). A typical jazz quintet would do that, except, well, that it's not "large". 🙂 Edited October 8 by Daniel A Quote
