"Falling in Love is Wonderful" has just been reissued on LP, CD, and streaming. Devasting. Absolutely devasting. Only three singers can stop the world like this on a ballad: Scott, Sinatra, and Holiday. I have been listening to this track constantly and crying. Music can stimulate all kinds of ideas and emotions, but if it doesn't make you FEEL something deep within you, then what are we even doing here? 

1962. The song is by Jimmy Van Heusen (music) and Johnny Burke (lyrics). Gerald Wilson wrote the arrangement.

Yes, that is a wonderful album. I have the Rhino release. "The Source" is also great, and, of course, the albums he did for Savoy. A marvelous and truly individual artist.

The thing about Jimmy Scott that always catches me off guard when I hear him on the radio is that I almost always wonder what female singer is singing until I see his name pop up on the display. He sings in such a high register for a male singer it's uncanny how close he comes to the pitch of many female singers.

Similar initial reaction here .. and the Youtube excerpt from the "Fallin Love" album at first made me think "So Pee Wee Marquette is singing now too??"

Somehow I feel the somewhat more youthful Jimmy Scott doesn't sound quite so "female" there, but rather like a sort of grown-up Sugar Chile Robinson.

On my album cover it is written that it is a female singer Chubby Newsome, and that she sounds quite under the weather on it, because she might have had a few....

Anyway, that vocal on Embraceable You sounds horrible to me. It´s only rescued by Bird, Bud and Fats, who has a beautiful sound on it, and it´s a rare item where he plays a ballad.
