ghost of miles Posted May 20, 2003 Report Posted May 20, 2003 I'm posting this here rather than in the political threads because my question concerns the impact of the falling dollar on non-U.S. CD prices. Tends to be negative, correct? I noticed that a Bear Family dealer seems to have raised his prices recently. Sorosdollar Quote
J.A.W. Posted May 20, 2003 Report Posted May 20, 2003 (edited) You're right, CDs from the Euro-zone (Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain) will become more expensive in dollars as a consequence of the rising euro, while CDs from the U.S. will become cheaper for people living in the Euro-zone. sidewinder Posted May 20, 2003 Report Posted May 20, 2003 (edited) Good for those of us over the pond constantly shelling out a king's ransom just to catch up with the near-OOP Mosaics. Heck - we need a bit of payback ! :rsly: Edited May 20, 2003 by sidewinder Quote
Son-of-a-Weizen Posted May 20, 2003 Report Posted May 20, 2003 I think a good number of us had better seriously consider putting our petty political differences aside for awhile so that we can lock arms and be prepared to annihilate those treacherous europeans if they dare storm our shores in search of cheap cd booty! Ghost my boy....you with me? (Oh, Hans....that 'thing' showed up today-- so until further notice, you're exempt from all of this 'unpleasant' business) Quote

ghost of miles Posted May 20, 2003 Author Report Posted May 20, 2003 Yes, I definitely think there's potential for a true coalition of the willing here (or wilting, if we're talking dollars). Summon the troops! Round up the air-raid wardens! Start mining the coasts and barb-wiring the beachfronts! Hell, let's just f&*% it all and go pre-emptive. This kind of threat simply can't be tolerated. Quote
pryan Posted May 20, 2003 Report Posted May 20, 2003 The Canadian dollar has been on the rise for a few weeks now, instigating (or at least giving me a reasonable excuse) my purchase of the Bunny Berigan Mosaic. Quote
Guest Mnytime Posted May 20, 2003 Report Posted May 20, 2003 (edited) It's not just against the Euro the Dollar is taking a beating. The Canadian dollar is much stronger against the dollar as well. I was buying most of my imports through Canada. The Canadian went all the way down to .61 on the dollar now it is up to .7428 I was able to get FMP releases for $11.02 when it was selling here for $16. Edited May 20, 2003 by Mnytime Quote

I've got the Tower and Borders down the street covered. Of course truth be known, I can be bought with a case of something special. Edited May 20, 2003 by catesta Quote

Yes, you're right. This is one of those times (rare over the past 8-10 years) when it's good to be both a Canadian and a big-time jazz fan. Time to stock up. As if I needed another excuse. I'm betting my wife will be impressed. Look honey, says I, don't be concerned - the exchange rate on the credit card bill is only 1.3672. Remember how last winter it was 1.4890! Think of the money I'm saving! Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 The US$ hasn't dropped as much against the Japanese yen: around 11% going into today. JRVG and TOJC prices might not go up as much for dollar buyers. So far, anyway. Quote
